The NATCA ZLA Professional Standards Committee would like to commend Sarah Harris on her dedication to the safety of the National Airspace System. She is an asset to her area and this facility.

On the night of August 22nd, 2026, Sarah signed in for her mid shift and began the pre duty tasks for her first session. The position relief briefing and the status information area both communicated that there would be no relevant hot airspace during the overnight shift. As part of her familiarization tasks, she checked the NOTAMs for the sector and the area. She noticed scheduling NOTAM for several pieces of airspace that didn't line up with the briefing or the board. Sarah spoke up about this to the controller in charge and remained diligent about addressing the issue while still working traffic. The CIC was able to work with the OM to find an airspace sheet that wasn't passed to the area as it should have been, leaving a valuable piece of information out of the controllers’ hands. Sarah's dedication to doing the right thing every shift, adherence to best practices, and amazing level of pride in her work saved her co-workers from a dangerous situation the following day.

September 11, 2001 — We Remember. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the families, friends, and communities forever changed that day.

We remember the passengers and crews who never made it home. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger. We remember the countless acts of courage, sacrifice, and compassion that followed.

For those of us in aviation, September 11 carries a profound significance. It changed our industry, our nation, and the work we do every day to keep the flying public safe.

We remember those we lost.
We honor those who served.
And we will never forget.

The NATCA ZLA Professional Standards Committee is proud to announce the Professional Standards Controller of the Quarter for Apr-Jun 2026, Christopher Matsumoto!

His nomination read as follows:

"I want to recommend Chris Matsumoto for controller of the quarter.
Earlier this year, Chris had to work somewhere around 6 hours solo with all positions and CIC combined after 1700 or so. He did voluntarily did this, and worked nonstop, taking just two quick restroom breaks.
Over the past 2 months, several days a week, L30 staffing triggers are pushing TMI’s past midnight leaving no TMC scheduled to work late issues. Chris has repeatedly worked after his shift ends at 2245 to support the operation and ensure the areas are taken care of into the mid shift.
Chris has come in to attend meetings on his own time to ensure ZLA is well represented in traffic management.
He engages with the areas directly to see what works and doesn’t when trying to balance the traffic flows all over the center. Chris is a dedicated professional that I wish to see recognized for all these efforts. "

⚾️ Dodgers Union Night! 🔵⚪️

What an incredible night at Dodger Stadium celebrating solidarity, unity, and our Union family!

More than 100 people, including members and their families, from ZLA, LAX, SCT, BUR, LGB, and VNY came together to cheer on the Dodgers, connect outside the facilities, and enjoy an unforgettable night as one Union family.

The energy was electric from the first pitch to the final out as the Dodgers battled the Washington Nationals in a thrilling, down-to-the-wire victory! 🙌

It was fantastic to see so many members participate, bring their families, share laughs, and strengthen the relationships that make our Union so strong. Between the “Yoshi” Yamamoto bobbleheads, Dodgers Union Night shirts, and nonstop excitement, the night had it all!

A great game, an even better group, and a hard-fought Dodgers win, what more could you ask for?

Strong Locals. Strong Region. Strong Union. ✊⚾️

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from NATCA ZLA! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the hardworking men and women who have dedicated their careers to the National Airspace System — and especially the controllers, past and present, who have helped shape NATCA and ZLA into what they are today.

Our union’s strength was built by those who came before us: the members who stood together, fought for better working conditions, advocated for our profession, and understood that when we stand together, our voices are stronger.

To our retired members, thank you for laying the foundation.
To our current members, thank you for continuing the fight.
And to the future generations of controllers, we hope to leave this union stronger than we found it.

Labor Day is a reminder that the progress we enjoy today was earned through the dedication, sacrifice, and solidarity of working people.

ZLA Membership Meeting Recap 🦅

Thank you to all of our ZLA members who came out for our Membership Meeting! There is a lot happening right now that directly impacts our profession, our pay, and our facility—and staying informed and engaged is more important than ever.

We covered several important topics, including:

🔹 Political Reality Briefing – Where we currently stand and what the political environment means for NATCA and our profession
🔹 2.8% Pay Raise – Discussion and updates
🔹 Administrator Duffy Post – Discussion surrounding recent messaging and its impact on our workforce
🔹 Local Negotiations – An update on negotiations at ZLA, where we stand, and what comes next
🔹 DRC Briefing – Updates and information from the NATCA Disaster Relief Committee

We also took a moment to recognize and thank our CPCs by presenting each one with a ZLA NATCA Challenge Coin. 🪙 Thank you for the professionalism, dedication, and commitment you bring to ZLA every day. Special thanks were given to outgoing reps Cierra and Jonathan for all their hard work and dedication to our local.
