Valley Girl Pet Rescue

Valley Girl Pet Rescue Valley Girl Pet Rescue takes in mostly middle-aged and older dogs and cats and provides them a safe,

Valley Girl Pet Rescue was started by Barbara Stam, a teacher who has been rescuing pets in Los Angeles for several years. After incurring thousands of dollars in expenses for food, supplies and veterinary care she decided to start a non-profit and Valley Girl Pet Rescue was born. I have been fortunate to be helped by two great board members, Pamela Yan and my sister, Mary Kay Stam who helped me b

y creating my logo and other graphic designs. Pam gave me advice on board meetings and how they should be conducted.

Latest improvements were to fix the wall heating system because it gets super cold here in the AV. An interesting fact about houses built in the 1950's in Palmdale: They had vents in each room and a fan in the attic which distributed both heat from the wall unit and cold air from the swamp cooler through the house- in other words a primitive central air system.
Had the great guys from Patterson Heating and Cooling fix the venting system and update the electrical in the attic and 900 bucks later have a wonderful central heat system without the cost of a central air unit. it gets down into the 20 degree range at night for several months of the year so the heat is really needed to keep the pets warm and toasty. Below are Snowball and Tony who now get along.
Still lots of work to do on the house.

Here is the yard in back of the large concrete area of my new house in Palmdale. I plan on having it landscaped to make it dog friendly. Can't wait until it is perfect for the pets!! At that point I can safely take in more animals. The fencing that is there is solid and they cannot get out. I'd like to create an area for goats or sheep as well.

It's been a long time since I have posted. I've been so busy teaching at my high school and taking classes for the free special ed credential my district is providing. Keeping the pets healthy and the house clean is also a big task.

Lucy, my cocker spaniel mix had a bad bought of diarrhea and when I took her to Palmdale Vet Hospital they discovered a bite would, most likely from Snowball, one of the American Eskimos. They were so awesome as I had only 340 bucks left on my Care Credit card. For sewing up the wound, two antibiotics, another med and the office call it was only 219 dollars. I am so grateful to Palmdale Vet Hospital. Thank you!!

So we will be taking in a new dog named Walter soon. He has been at a shelter since July. He is good with cats so that is a bonus. I'll put up a picture soon. Any donations of food would help

Valley Girl Pet Rescue has successfully moved to Palmdale. I was able to buy a house with the help of a special program. The pets love the new house. More room and tile floors! Tony the cat loves it

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks with packing, hiring a welder to build fencing, taking on summer school (it's fun to teach and it is a financial cushion), grading and planning and keeping up with the pets' needs. Will be looking for a good pet sitter in Palmdale for some of my longer work days. Wish me and the pets luck.

So Valley Girl Pet Rescue is on the cusp of home ownership in Palmdale. Escrow is scheduled to close June 13th but there are still a couple of caveats. The appraisal was done but I haven't seen the results. Since I offered more than what was being asked, I'm not sure how that will turn out. Hoping for the best so the pets have a permanent place. Should be getting money from the retirement account to help with the move, build fencing, etc. Wish us luck.

We could really use some support. Otherwise, it is off to Palmdale and a 50 mile commute daily. Not good for the pets

Valley Girl Pet Rescue is in a tough spot. My landlord wants to sell the house and he has asked if I would like to buy it but it would take me about 6 months to qualify. He wants to sell now. If I could raise part of the down payment I could qualify for down payment assistance because I am a t...
