IAEP Local 77 is devastated by the murder of Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer. Ryan was a hero who many of our members had the pleasure of serving with during his time at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his friends, and the extraordinary deputies who will continue to protect and serve the citizens of Los Angeles County.

For many years, the Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics who respond to every medical emergency in the Antelope Valley have been overworked and underpaid. Their employer, American Medical Response, is a multi billion dollar company, yet they pretend they cannot afford to pay their providers more than minimum wage. That means that when you or your loved ones have an emergency, our response may be delayed because AMR is unwilling to lose some of their profit margin.

No more. Join your local first responders in their fight for fair wages on September 13th in Los Angeles. We will be marching across the 6th street bridge to the Board of Supervisors to let them know that enough is enough. The support of our community would mean the world to us.

Thanks for reading!

Our very own Local R12-77 president Michael Diaz spent some time with an investigative reporter detailing the "short comings of our system", the "need for reform", and "the very real problems that first responders face in our profit driven system."

It's a great read that gives you a look into the inner workings of the system you rely on during the worst of times, and the added challenges faced by the EMTs and Paramedics who work within it during a pandemic.

As the winter’s surge of coronavirus cases overwhelmed Los Angeles hospitals, EMTs like Michael Diaz were forced to take previously unthinkable measures. What lasting impact will the pandemic have on America’s first responders?

We are deeply saddened to learn about the untimely passing of CHP Officer Andy Ornelas. We offer up our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones in this difficult time.

With heavy hearts we announce the End of Watch for Antelope Valley CHP Officer Andy Ornelas, ID 21685.

On November 23, 2020, at approximately 7:05 pm, Officer Ornelas was riding his departmental motorcycle when a motorist pulled from the right shoulder to make a U-turn directly in his path. Officer Ornelas’ motorcycle struck the other vehicle, causing him to be thrown from his motorcycle. Officer Ornelas was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster.

Despite significant life-saving efforts by medical personnel, on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Officer Ornelas succumbed to his injuries. Officer Ornelas is survived by his wife, mother, father, brother, and sister. Officer Ornelas was a member of the Department for four years.
