My sincerest thanks to the Alliance for California Traditional Arts for inviting me to speak on grief at Antelope Valley CHIRLA, with extra special thanks to these two interpreters who made my presentation possible! (And thanks again to all of our attendees for your patience with this native English speaker whose second language is German.) Simultaneous interpretation is pure magic, and these two performed it flawlessly!
I’m so grateful to have been able to share tonight on signs and reminders, with emphasis on being intentional to remember our lost loved ones with, in David Kessler’s words, “more love than pain.“ I genuinely appreciated the opportunity to hear how others honor and incorporate their person into both daily life and special occasions, and it was an absolute treat to hear about the signs that help each of us lovingly remember those we’ve lost.
My presentation was followed by the building of mini-offrendas, and I thanked everyone for not only keeping their traditions alive for members of their own culture, but also for being kind enough to share such beautiful things with others of us who need them.
