ANNOUNCEMENT: PVCA Candidate Forum for County Commissioners District 2 and 4 To Be Held July 14; All Registered Voters Can Vote

The Palm Valley and Ponte Vedra Community Associations (Ponte Vedra Community Association) will host a Public Forum on July 14, 2026, featuring all candidates for the St. Johns County Commission (SJC) for Districts 2 and 4.

The event will be held in the Contemporary Worship space on the second floor of Christ Episcopal Church at 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event begins at 6:00 p.m.

The PVCA Candidate Forum is a nonpartisan event designed to ensure a fair discussion. An experienced moderator will lead the forum, during which candidates will answer questions and present their positions on the issues most important to St. Johns County voters. Questions will be developed in advance based on community concerns; there will be no audience participation or open-floor questions.

"Of particular note this year – both races are open to all registered voters in St. Johns County and will appear on all ballots. All voters will have the opportunity to vote in both Republican races. This is known as a universal primary contest, in which the winner in each district will not face opposition in the general election,” explained Vicky Oakes, St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections."

"We are thrilled to partner with the Palm Valley Community Association to engage and educate our community, especially in a year when every registered voter can vote for the candidates," added Lori Wells, President of the Ponte Vedra Community Association.

"Our two community associations are always seeking opportunities to encourage constructive discussion of issues important to our community. With a Universal Primary this year, we expect strong voter turnout. We are proud to offer this opportunity for people to learn about all the candidates," said Greg Leonard, President of the Palm Valley Community Association.

More information on the candidate forum can be found on the event website: www.pvcaforum.com. The Primary will be held on August 18.

Palm Valley Community Association Announces Public Meeting, April 13, at 6:30 p.m., with SJC School Board Officials

St. Johns County School District Superintendent Dr. Brennan Asplen and District 4 School Board Representative Kelly Barrera will speak at the Palm Valley Community Center on Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Asplen will review highlights from the past school year and address the district's projected $23 million budget deficit in 2027, including potential cuts and structural changes that could affect St. Johns County schools.

A key factor driving this shortfall: when the Florida Legislature expanded the school voucher program to include private and charter schools in 2023, per-pupil funding for public schools declined — placing St. Johns County schools at a crossroad.

We look forward to hearing about and having a greater understanding of the challenges and the opportunities we have for St Johns County students. All residents are encouraged to attend.
