Today is Inters*x Awareness Day.

Inters*x children are too often subjected to ge***al surgery as infants, before they can have any say, when the surgery isn’t needed for their health or physical function. Three former U.S. Surgeons General have said that practice should stop.

Every child deserves the chance to make decisions about their own body. That’s why equal protection has to mean all children.

Many parents say circumcision was presented as a routine checkbox, not a decision. It’s surgery, and you’re allowed to ask questions.

Before you sign anything, ask:
1. Is this medically necessary for my son?
2. What are the risks, including the serious ones?
3. What pain relief will he get?
4. Why not let him decide when he’s older?

If the answers don’t convince you, ā€œnoā€ is a complete answer.

šŸ“Œ Save it. Send it to every expecting parent you know.

One of the most common reasons parents are given, and one of the easiest to clear up.

A baby’s intact p***s needs no special care. Wash the outside during normal bathing, and that’s it. Never pull back the fo****in: it’s attached at birth and separates naturally over time, sometimes not until the teen years. Forcing it can cause pain and injury.

That’s not our advice. It’s the guidance from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

šŸ“Œ Save this for someone who’s expecting.

Change doesn't happen overnight. Swipe through 30 years of laws, research and doctors changing their minds šŸ‘‰
1996: Congress protects girls from ge***al cutting.
2010: The AAP floats a ceremonial "nick" for girls, then retracts it after public outcry.
2012: The AAP stops short of recommending routine circumcision for all newborn boys.
2017: Three former U.S. Surgeons General call for an end to cosmetic surgery on inters*x infants.
2018–2021: A court strikes down the federal law for girls, and Congress restores and strengthens it. Boys and inters*x children are still left out.
2022: Newborn circumcision in U.S. hospitals falls to 49.3%.
2025: Hadachek v. Oregon is filed, and members of the AAP's own task force speak out.
2026: Huff v. Colorado is filed, and Hadachek v. Oregon heads to appeal.
Next: a higher court. Support the cases at intactglobal.org (link in bio).

Charles Wang was two days old.

In February 2024, he was circumcised at a private clinic in Garden Grove, California. His parents brought him home, where he stopped feeding and grew lethargic. They say they were told it was normal. That night they found him cold and not breathing, and he was pronounced dead the next morning.

The Orange County coroner ruled his cause of death bronchopneumonia due to acute Demerol intoxication. The doctor has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter and has pleaded not guilty; that case is ongoing, as is a wrongful death suit filed by his parents.

Charles didn’t need surgery. He needed to go home and grow up. We share his story so that other families know the risks before anyone asks them to sign.

šŸ’™ Our thoughts are with Charles’s family.

In September 2026, the trial court in Hadachek v. Oregon ruled for the state on summary judgment.

A trial court ruling is one step, not the end of the case. We’re preparing an appeal to take the fight for equal protection to a higher court. In Colorado, Huff v. Colorado continues.

Thank you to the plaintiffs who stood up, to everyone who filled the courtroom, and to every supporter who made this case possible. We’re not done.

Follow the appeal in The Intact Brief, our monthly newsletter, and support the cases at intactglobal.org (link in bio).

Under federal law, a girl is protected from non-medical ge***al cutting, even a pinprick, even if her parents consent. Anyone who does it faces up to 10 years in federal prison.

A boy or an inters*x child has none of that protection.

Equal protection under the law should mean every child. We don’t think a child’s s*x should decide whether their body is protected, and that’s the question our cases in Oregon and Colorado are putting before the courts.

šŸ” Share this. Most people have no idea.

Around the world, people already know that cutting a child’s ge***als without their consent is wrong. Most of the world doesn’t do it to boys, and the U.S. already bans it for girls.

Now America is waking up. Newborn circumcision rates are falling. The doctors behind the AAP’s 2012 policy are rethinking it. And two constitutional cases, Hadachek v. Oregon and Huff v. Colorado, are asking the courts to protect every child equally.

Over the coming weeks, we’re sharing one fact at a time: the research, the law and the people changing their minds. Follow along, share what you learn, and say NO.

The more you know, the more you NO. šŸ”— intactglobal.org
