Founded in 2016, Caravanserai facilitates the ability of individuals from marginalized, under-resourced communities to launch for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations that generate financial security, economic mobility, and systemic change.

Saturday evening was a reminder of why this work matters.

At the Palm Springs Art Museum, SEED Lab founders stepped on stage and shared more than business pitches. They shared their stories, their vision, and the impact they are working to create in their communities.

Congratulations to Xochitl Alejo De Leon of 7 Lucky Farms () for winning the Audience Vote Award.

We are also incredibly proud of every SEED Lab fellow who crossed the stage. Each of them represents the creativity, resilience, and leadership that continues to shape the Coachella Valley and the Inland Empire.

Tomorrow is the big day! You won’t want to miss it!

Last, but certainly not least in our founder spotlight is Xochitl Alejo De Leon of 7 Lucky Farms.

Xochitl is the daughter of farmers and the founder of 7 Lucky Farms, a collective of farmers with more than 200 years of combined farming experience dedicated to growing food, growing knowledge, and growing community across the region.

What drives her is a vision that goes beyond the harvest. She is working to secure a future where farmers own the land they work on and the next generation never has to start from scratch.

On April 25, she brings that mission to the stage at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

We’re just two days away from our premier event!

Next up in our founder spotlight is Cindy and Casey Ball of the Desert Empire Filmmaker Foundation.

Cindy and Casey are building something the Inland Empire has never had: a film ecosystem where local creatives can learn, work, and succeed without having to leave their community. Through the Desert Empire Filmmaker Foundation, they provide the resources, training, and mentorship that filmmakers in the region have long been missing.

What drives them is a belief that the Inland Empire’s stories matter. The region is rich with culture, resilience, and identity, and DEFF exists to make sure those stories get told.

On April 25, they bring that mission to the stage at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Next up in our founder spotlight is Yesenia Garcia of Ecological Rites.

Yesenia built Ecological Rites to change how we think about environmental action. Through workshops and ecological land management plans, she uplifts the scientific achievements of Indigenous peoples of the Americas and works toward large-scale environmental restoration. Her educational programs are designed to be inviting, so community action can grow from Indigenous knowledge.

What drives her is a fresh perspective on a familiar challenge. By centering an Indigenous lens, she offers an innovative approach to environmental action, one rooted in scientific traditions that deserve a wider audience.

Next up in our founder spotlight is Valli Bhavireddy of Sandlight Studios. .studios

Valli built Sandlight Studios to close the visibility gap for small business owners and emerging creators in the Coachella Valley. She trains business owners, organizations, and creators to use their phones and AI to turn visibility into paying customers, while building a local path into the creator economy for emerging talent.

What drives her is personal. Growing up in India, she often felt invisible. When the Coachella Valley gave her a platform to be seen, she made it her mission to make sure no local business or emerging talent has to stay invisible either.

We’re less than one week out!

Next in our founder spotlight is Rico Guerrero of House of H**p.

Rico started House of H**p to change the way the public sees one of the most versatile plants out there. H**p has been used for centuries in textiles, food, and building materials, and Rico is bringing that tradition into something you use every day: napkins, plates, and paper goods made from h**p as a sustainable replacement for plastic and bleached paper.

His “why” is the rare kind of story where passion and opportunity meet at the right moment. One day he woke up and realized the two had crossed paths, and he has been running with it ever since. He is all in on getting the word out about h**p, in every form and to every audience he can reach.

On April 25, Rico takes the stage at the Palm Springs Art Museum to share his vision.
