PSPF is pleased to host a tour of the Liever Residence (1968, Stan Sackley) during Modernism Week-October. The Lievers, who had a large family, enjoyed entertaining but didn’t wish to host overnight guests. Sackley designed a large home of over 3,000 square feet with only one bedroom, but with grand living spaces and servant’s quarters.

Please attend tomorrow's (Wed, Jul 8th, 5:30pm) Palm Springs city council meeting and ask the city to consider a balanced tree management approach rather than the proposed blanket policy that will strip 2,150 palm trees of their skirts. The palm skirts have become a distinctive characteristic of the Palm Springs landscape as represented in dozens of vintage and contemporary postcards, and photographs. The current “look” of the palms (i.e., skirts trimmed to approximately 12-feet off the ground) have become inextricably linked with our downtown image and have risen to the level of becoming a “cultural resource.”

PSPF is proud to announce our $5,000 grant in support of Cal Poly Pomona's effort to archive and digitize the architectural photography of Marvin Rand. Rand was an important photographer who documented the work of Southern California's most celebrated architects of the mid-twentieth century. Cal Poly is working to make Rand's photographs discoverable to as many researchers as possible, unlocking a treasure trove of images that have never been seen before. Here's a look at the Palevsky Residence (1968) in Palm Springs, designed by Craig Ellwood and with interiors by Arthur Elrod. The interior shot has never been seen or published, and offers a full-color look at an early Elrod interior scheme for the home's living room.

At Wednesday evening's Palm Springs City Council meeting, the city attorney announced that "no report" was forthcoming regarding the Closed Session Agenda items which included the city's possible purchase of important portions of the historic Town & Country Center. In short, the future of The Center remains in limbo.
