Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast action pics! Because what goes up, must come down. After the breakfast, the tables are cleared, the flags come down, Harvey’s bust goes back in storage, and, yes, that is G4G Executive Director Anne Friedman who rolled up her sleeves to help the local chapter volunteers out! 💪🏼 🏳️‍🌈

Today our wonderful volunteers were up early to greet the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast attendees. Honored at the event with the Legacy Award were Mathew Shepard’s parents, Judy and Dennis. Honored with the Leadership Award was Brandon Wolf, survivor of the Pulse Nightclub massacre (shown with G4G Executive Director Anne Friedman). G4G volunteer, author, poet and playwright, Lorenzo Taylor, read his poem “Give ‘em Hope, Harvey”.

Many volunteers spent the morning setting up for The Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast at the Palm Springs Convention Center. There were 120 tables, with programs and pens for the expected 1200 attendees. 50 flag poles were assembled for 50 diversity flags. One big bust of Harvey was hauled in to a prominent position - thankfully it’s styrofoam! Gay For Good Palm Springs always enjoys partnering with the Palm Springs Pride Organization, producer of this event.

Every Thursday The Center’s Community Food Bank provides fresh produce, baked goods, proteins, pantry items, dairy and more to residents in need of food assistance. The Center’s regular volunteers, our G4G volunteers and Great Outdoors were all on hand to get food out to waiting clients! All three organizations have a lot of crossover in volunteers! 🏳️‍🌈 🙌

Palm Springs along with 23 chapters nationwide, took part in visible, meaningful environmental action this Saturday for Earth Day. Partnering with Tahquitz Creek Yacht Club, our volunteers used trash bags, pickers and gloves to safely remove trash from Tahquitz Creek Channel, a one-mile stretch of urban creek between Sunrise and South Palm Canyon in the center of Palm Springs. Some of what our volunteers retrieved from the creek bed include plastic coffee cups, shattered glass, plastic water bottles, cigarette butts, candy wrappers and bottle caps.
