Haunt for HEP
My passion for Halloween started when I was about 10 years old. My neighbors, Mark and Cindy Jeffries had some really cool Halloween props and I was jealous. So I told my Dad that we should do that, decorate for Halloween. It started simple with some Dollar Store spider webs and tombstones from Spirit Halloween. Make no mistake, my goal was to win the Halloween decorating crown in my neighborhood. My understanding of how cool Halloween can be all changed when I visited Dr. Paul Duryea’s Mansion of the Macabre in 2015. Since that time he’s been our “Halloween Consultant” and with my Dad in our garage we’ve created some awesome one of a kind props. We’ve spent 100’s of hours creating, finding 1000 ways something won’t work before hitting on the right design. I hope to one day study Architecture or Engineering (or both) and these projects are a great way to learn how to use tools and practice some of the concepts I’m learning in my Engineering studies at East Lake High School.
My Haunt is intended to show one of a kind creations that entertain the Trick or Treaters of all ages while providing just enough scares to interest even the most experienced Haunters. For the 2nd year in a row we’ve teamed up with the Homeless Empowerment Program (HEP) in hopes of raising awareness and donations for their cause. I hope to see you all on Halloween this year.
