Desi Strong Foundation

Desi Strong Foundation Please help us fight this fight, for the future of our children. No child fights alone! This daily routine was exhausting, we know this firsthand.

Purpose:
We were completely powerless when it came to curing Desi's disease. Desi would have less than 5 weeks in between treatments which always kept us on our toes. We learned so much about her disease, the treatments that could keep her alive, the horrible side effects that these treatments had on her body and spirit and most importantly, how to be Desi's advocate. After each treatment we would

do our best to catch the side effects early so that we could minimize the pain and nausea that Desi would endure. Outthinking the disease and trying our best to curb the side effects of the treatments made decisions very complicated; the energy that we spent fighting the side effects became so significant that it was hard to imagine that she was fighting cancer as well. We want to help lighten the load of families who are going through the hardships and obstacles that Desi and our family went through. We want to provide children and their families with items that made our extended stays in the hospital more manageable and our daughter's treatments more comfortable. We want to assist with providing money for food, gas and other expenses. We want the siblings of the patients to know that they have not been forgotten. Through our own experiences we saw our daughter benefit from having a doll as a therapeutic tool. We are very interested in designing and producing a "Desi Doll." While Desi was fighting cancer she would treat her dolls like her patients, they too had cancer. She would give them IV's, ports and check their vitals. Caring for them as if she was their doctor. The Desi Doll will emulate everything that Desi was and continues to be. The doll will reflect children that are fighting cancer by being bald and have the ability to be cared for. It is our mission to have the foundation provide dolls to as many children fighting cancer as we can reach. Our most important goal is to raise funds to find a cure for pediatric cancer in Desi's name. Please help us in this fight! Desi has taught the world so many things in her 6 years of life. She danced through chemo, loved unconditionally & never lost her beautiful smile. We want every cancer fighting child to feel the love that Desi was so graciously given.

Please meet our Desi Strong Volunteer, Sandy

Sandy has been part of the Desi Strong family since the very beginning. When Desi was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, Sandy stepped in to help, and she hasn’t stopped since. A retired teacher and grandmother of one of Desi’s classmates, Sandy has dedicated countless hours to our mission.

She is the driving force behind our annual Coin Wars campaign, helping schools across the Coachella Valley raise awareness and funds during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. If you’ve visited the Kid Zone at one of our events, you’ve probably seen Sandy keeping the fun going as our amazing emcee.

Her passion, creativity, and unwavering commitment have helped us reach more families and shine a brighter light on childhood cancer.

Thank you, Sandy, for your years of dedication, your servant’s heart, and everything you do to help us continue our mission. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Desi Strong family. 💜🎗️

Today is California Neuroblastoma Awareness Day, all thanks to SR 128 that was passed by the California State Senate on August 15th.

Neuroblastoma is the type of pediatric cancer that Desi fought and many other children continue to battle. 💜

Here are a few facts to ponder on this day:
🎗Neuroblastoma is the most common cancer in infants and the most common extracranial solid tumor in childhood
🎗There are approximately 600 to 800 new cases of neuroblastoma diagnosed each year in the U.S.
🎗Neuroblastoma accounts for about 8 to 10 percent of all childhood cancers and approximately 15 percent of childhood cancer deaths
🎗Approximately 90 percent of neuroblastoma cases are diagnosed before five years of age

As research continues, our support for these children and their families must not waver. Education and advocacy are key to continue our fight against neuroblastoma and other cancers our warriors face.

TODAY marks the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️💛

There are so many ways to make a difference, and for schools and businesses across the Coachella Valley. One simple way to join the fight against pediatric cancer is by participating in Coin Wars!

Throughout the month of September, schools and classrooms across the Valley will compete to see who can raise the most funds for local children and families facing the toughest battles of their lives. ❤️‍🩹

Every coin, every dollar, and every classroom that participates makes a difference. At the end of the month, we’ll collect the coins, tally everything up, and announce which school and classroom raised the most! 🏆

Let’s turn spare change into real change for local kids fighting cancer. 🎗️
