Starting Friday, June 5, join local naturalists Charlie and Laura for a one hour walk through the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Learn about the birds that call this forest home and the unique ecology of the oldest trees in the world.

📍Meet at Schulman Visitor Center outdoor deck

Nature walks are free and open to all ages. Walks will be outside at 10,000' elevation, please bring water, sun protection and hiking/walking shoes.

There’s a little (and I mean little) break in the hot weather coming up and on Monday, May 18 Kurt will do a pop-up birdwalk at the Living Desert.

Meet just inside at 8:22am (note the strange start time…). Admission fee required.



Migration is mostly over but it’s always interesting to see what birds are around!



Also on Thursdays in May there are free birdwalks at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage at 845am and Kurt will be leading the May 21 walk. He'll have the DCBC bird caps - if you need one for the summer this is your chance.

The Countdown to WFO's 50th Conference Begins

Registration for the Western Field Ornithologists 50th Annual Conference opens May 18, 2026 — and we can't wait to welcome you to Ashland, Oregon, September 17–20.

In collaboration with the Klamath Bird Observatory and supported by the Oregon Birding Association, this milestone gathering brings together researchers, conservation practitioners, and passionate birders for four days of science, learning, and community.

Whether you study birds professionally or simply love being in the field, WFO 2026 is designed to deepen your connection to avian science and the people advancing it.

2,826 acres of riparian habitat surrounded by

situated in Whitewater Canyon and provides
an important wildlife corridor between San
