Remembering Robert G. Cuff, Jr.

Flagler Habitat for Humanity joins our community in remembering Robert G. Cuff, Jr., one of the four original incorporators who established our affiliate in December 1992.

More than thirty years ago, Bob helped lay the legal and organizational foundation for what would become Flagler Habitat for Humanity. His vision, leadership, and commitment to affordable homeownership helped create an organization that has partnered with local families ever since.

Today, because of the work of Bob and the countless volunteers, board members, donors, staff, churches, and partner families who followed, dozens of local families have achieved the stability and opportunity that comes with owning a safe, affordable home.

Bob's legacy reminds us that one person's vision can change the course of a community. His example inspires us to think boldly, embrace new opportunities, and build upon the foundation he helped create. We honor his legacy by striving to reach more families, build more homes, and continue expanding the opportunities that affordable homeownership brings to Flagler County.

We extend our sincere condolences to Bob's family and friends. His legacy lives on in every home built, every family empowered, and in every person inspired to continue the work he helped begin. We have been blessed by him, and we are forever grateful for his vision, compassion, and contribution.

Every new home built by Flagler Habitat for Humanity is Florida Water Star® Certified, meeting standards for water-efficient fixtures, irrigation, and landscaping.

A typical Florida Water Star-certified home can save up to 48,000 gallons of water each year and up to $530 annually on utility bills, helping homeowners lower their monthly costs while protecting Florida's water resources.

July is half over but there are more places to donate than ever!

The City of Flagler Beach and Flagler County Veteran Advisory Council are collecting for our 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 & 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 for 2026 all summer long.

Labeled collection bins have been placed at 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥, 𝐔𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐖𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 as well as local civic organizations including

These bins will be in these and other locations for the next month and collected at the end of July.

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash other oral care items (regular and travel size)
Saline eye drops or Liquid Tears
Talc/Baby/Gold Bond powder
Teflon or graphite powder
Wet wipes, Individual hand sanitizer, skin lotion
Chewing gum
Writing paper, envelopes, black/blue pens
Puzzles, crosswords, word search books acceptable
Notes, letters, cards of encouragement and support
Especially from children (civic groups, Boy and Girl Scouts, church youth groups, etc.)

In Flagler County, households earning around $50,000 a year have only 27 affordable rental homes available for every 100 households in that income range. Even households earning around $68,000 a year face a shortage, with only 72 affordable rental homes for every 100 households.

Every household is the center of its own network. Behind every front door are connections to employers, coworkers, neighbors, schools, places of worship, local businesses, friends, and extended family. A family's ability to remain in the community has social and economic effects that reach far beyond the people living in the home.

Affordable housing is about preserving the relationships that make a community resilient.

Strong communities are built when people come together to solve problems. For more than 30 years, with Flagler Habitat for Humanity, local businesses, volunteers, faith communities, civic organizations, donors, and partner families have done exactly that, building not only homes, but stronger neighborhoods and a stronger Flagler County.

Every affordable home begins with one essential ingredient: land.

We're grateful to the City of Palm Coast for donating two city-owned infill lots to Flagler Habitat for Humanity. Florida law encourages local governments to consider donating surplus land to nonprofit affordable housing organizations because lowering land costs helps make homeownership more attainable.

Here's what many people don't realize:

• Habitat homes are sold, not given away, through affordable 0% interest mortgages.

• Homebuyers are selected based on need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner, including completing sweat equity hours, home maintenance & financial literacy studies.

• Habitat homeowners pay property taxes, homeowners insurance, and all the responsibilities that come with owning a home.

Flagler Habitat for Humanity has been serving our community since 1992. Our first home was a modest 930-square-foot house in Palm Coast's R-Section, built before Palm Coast was an incorporated city. Since then, we've partnered with local families, volunteers, donors, churches, businesses, clubs, and government to build more than 135 affordable homes throughout Flagler County.

Land donations help reduce one of the biggest costs of building a home, making homeownership possible for local families who live, work, pay taxes, and contribute to our community.

Each new Habitat home represents an estimated $330,000 in total economic activity—supporting local contractors, suppliers, jobs, and businesses while creating another owner-occupied home with a long term investment in our community.
