Happy Birthday Civil Air Patrol!

Happy Birthday, Civil Air Patrol!

Since its formation in the earliest days of World War II, Civil Air Patrol has stood as a vigilant force dedicated to service, innovation, and the safety of our nation. Founded on December 1, 1941, CAP mobilized Americas civilian aviation community for national defense, and over the decades it has evolved into one of our countrys premier public service organizations.

As a proud Total Force partner and the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol continues to answer the call: searching for the lost, providing relief in times of disaster, supporting missions that keep our homeland secure, and inspiring the next generation through aerospace education and STEM programs. Its 56,000 volunteer members selflessly give their time, skills, and passion to uplift their communities and strengthen the nation.

Civil Air Patrol is also a critical mission partner to CONR-1AF (AFNORTH & AFSPACE), providing essential support to air domain awareness, homeland defense operations, and key training and evaluation missions. Their dedication directly enhances the readiness of Americas air defense enterprise, and their volunteer Airmen play an invaluable role in safeguarding our skies.

From cadets to seasoned volunteers, CAPs members carry out their duties with the same vigilance, spirit, and determination as those who founded the organization more than 80 years ago. Their legacy of service endures, reaching nearly 1,500 communities across America.

Happy Birthday, CAP, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to our country and your steadfast support to C1AA. Here is to another year of service, leadership, and excellence.

The FLWG Government Relations National Legislative Day Team is pleased to announce that the window for receiving applications is open through November 30th for Florida Wing cadets participation in the 2026 National Legislative Day event in Washington DC.

For participation in the FLWG National Legislative Day, a Civil Air Patrol cadet must be at least 16 years old, have obtained the Mitchell Achievement or higher, and be recommended by their squadron commander.

National Legislative Day (NLD) is CAP's opportunity to educate elected representatives at the national level about what Civil Air Patrol volunteers do for their communities, state, and nation. The NLD involves meeting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, telling them the CAP story, and informing them of CAP’s stewardship of annual appropriated funds. Each year, Florida Wing Cadets are selected to represent Florida Wing for this event, sending them to Washington DC for a typically three-day long trip. In addition to the full day spent on Capitol Hill, cadets will enjoy some sight-seeing and an opportunity to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown. Up to 10 cadets may be selected to participate.

National Legislative Day will take place on 26 February. The selected FLWG representative team (announced in December) will participate in preparatory training during the month of January, travel to Washington DC from February 24th to February 28th to accomplish the CAP NLD mission, lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington National Cemetery, and do a bit of sight-seeing in our nation's capital.
