🍂🌿 FALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE UPDATE 🌿🍂

We’re working to keep our gardens and grounds beautiful, healthy, and welcoming for everyone to enjoy!

Our team is currently conducting routine fall maintenance throughout the park to care for our gardens, reflection ponds, and surrounding areas while preparing for new plantings and upcoming events.

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: PORTIONS OF THE PARK MAY BE CLOSED ON A DAILY BASIS DURING THIS MAINTENANCE PERIOD. We encourage visitors to be aware that access to certain areas may vary from day to day as work progresses.

🛠️ Maintenance activities include: 🌱 Garden planting and seasonal maintenance 💧 Reflection pond maintenance 🍃 Removal of algae and debris from the ponds 🧼 Pressure washing of concrete pond surfaces 🌳 Continued restoration and recovery following last winter’s freeze 🌼 Preparation for new plantings and upcoming events

You may notice that some areas of the gardens look different than usual during this time. These maintenance efforts are necessary to improve the health and beauty of the gardens and prepare the park for the upcoming season and special events.

Please note that the Garden Walk at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026, has been canceled due to ongoing park maintenance.

The plant sale event is free with paid admission to the state park.

🚗 Park Entry Fees:
• $5 per vehicle — 2–8 people per vehicle
• $4 — single-occupant vehicle

🌺🐦 Happy National Hummingbird Day! 🐦🌺

This National Hummingbird Day, September 5, let’s celebrate one of nature’s tiniest—and most incredible—pollinators!

Hummingbirds may be small, but they play an important role in our ecosystems as they move from flower to flower, helping pollinate the plants we depend on. As migration season begins, many hummingbirds will soon be heading south, making this a perfect time to appreciate these amazing little travelers. 🌿

💚 Did you know?
• Hummingbirds are the only birds capable of sustained backward flight.
• Their wings can beat dozens of times per second—some species reach around 80 beats per second!
• Some hummingbirds may consume more than their own body weight in nectar in a day to fuel their incredible metabolism.
• They also eat tiny insects and spiders for protein and other nutrients.

The next time you see a hummingbird hovering around the flowers, take a moment to watch. That tiny blur of wings is an incredible example of nature at work! 🌺💚

Help hummingbirds by protecting native plants, providing natural sources of nectar, and preserving the habitats they depend on.

OPS Park Ranger Positions

Faver-Dykes State Park is seeking self-motivated park service professionals to fill OPS Park Ranger positions.

Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

Selected applicants will assist with a variety of park operations, including:
• On-the-job-training
• Visitor services and public engagement
• Park maintenance and facility upkeep
• Resource management and conservation activities
• Park protection and safety
• Administrative support and operations
• Toll collecting and Campground Registration at Ranger Station
• Pay: $15.00 per hour

Qualified candidates should possess strong customer service skills, as well as experience or aptitude in maintenance, administrative duties, and working in an outdoor environment.
