Happy Friday!!! Let's kick off the weekend with another HEAR to Inspire post! Meet sisters Leah & Sophie who are 6 and a half and 5 years old. They were diagnosed with progressive, bilateral sensorineural hearing loss at ages 3 years and 2 years old. They underwent bilateral cochlear implant surgery on January 4th, 2023 and just celebrated their third hearing birthdays! Leah loves gymnastics 🤸‍♀️ Sophie loves arts and crafts 🎨🖌️ You can follow along their hearing journeys at .js Their mom Jessica loves connecting with other families and you can follow her a follow . Welcome are back with our February HEAR to Inspire post! ✨Meet Evan! His mother shared that he started wearing a hearing aid at 5 years old due to unilateral sensorineural hearing loss. After his hearing loss progressed to single-sided deafness, he received a cochlear implant in 2024 at age 8. A few months after he received his cochlear implant he decided to start taking electric guitar lessons. He loves it so much and is very musical! It’s amazing how quickly he learns the songs he’s playing. He’s hard working with his auditory-verbal therapy (AVT) and wants to always get the most out of having two hearing ears! His mother said he's her hero for sure!

Happy Tuesday! We are excited to share our first HEAR to Inspire post!!! 🦻Meet Noah! His mom, Michelle, shared, "My 4 year old, Noah, has permanent, moderate hearing loss in both ears due to chemotherapy. He was diagnosed with liver cancer just days after his 1st birthday. He survived 13 rounds of chemo, a radiation treatment never done on a baby before, a cardiac arrest, a liver transplant and about 500 days in the hospital. He is now over 2.5 years cancer free! Believe it or not, his cancer journey is just one small part of his story. He was quite speech and developmentally delayed due to his circumstances. Once he got his first set of hearing aids, though, his speech exploded. While he still has some trouble with some sounds, his vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds. Despite everything he's been through in his short life, he has the kindest heart and the most positive spirit." We are so proud of you Noah and thank you for being HEAR to inspire us! 🎉

It's Giving Tuesday and we are highlighting one of our AG Bell FL members and his family! Did you know that because of donations to AG Bell Florida, this past year AG Bell Florida offered financial assistance to families of d/DHH children to attend the LSLS parent track at the FLASH convention? Elias' mother was a recipient of this opportunity and wanted us to share this! Shared from his mother, "Meet Elias, a bright-eyed six-year-old who is happily making his way through first grade! Born deaf, his hearing journey officially began when his dad and I decided to help him explore the world of sound with cochlear implants when he was just 9 months old. While he was already busy doing baby-Pilates (a.k.a. physical and occupational therapy), we added Speech and Auditory therapy and never looked back!
Then came March 2020, when the world hit the big "pause" button thanks to Covid-19. But did that challenge stop his team of dedicated doctors and therapists? Not for a second! We decided we were not going to let a global pandemic rain on his parade. We are incredibly grateful for his fantastic team, all united by one common goal: helping Elias be the ultimate version of himself!
Their mission often involved us, getting a crash course in "Device Management 101," learning how to be the world's most enthusiastic therapy assistants, and even attending conferences to keep us educated on this little guy's needs.
It has not always been a smooth ride—think more roller coaster than lazy river—and every day is a new adventure. But one thing is always a constant, Elias’s epic willingness and sheer determination to keep moving forward and absolutely thriving!" Thank you for your donations and supporting our organization! Giving Tuesday is this upcoming Tuesday, December 2! Giving Tuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, and businesses around the globe to support and champion the causes they believe in and help their communities. Did you know that A.G. Bell Florida is a tax exempt, non-profit organization whose board is made entirely of individuals who are DHH, their families, and professionals who volunteer their efforts to keep the organization running each year. This means we rely completely on donations and fundraising efforts to fund our projects! Donations to A.G. Bell Florida on Giving Tuesday and any day of the year are used for funding opportunities including educational opportunities for families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, sponsoring speakers for continuing education events for hearing loss professionals, and funding community events for the families we serve. This past year we were able to sponsor 4 families to attend the LSLS parents track at the FLASHA convention! The QR code for our Venmo is attached to this post.
