Though this is a true crisis, don’t be led by fear, ever. As the virus scales up, our wisdom & faith should do the same! Here are a few things to think on...
• Your view of God in moments like this will determine your peace. A God with no control over coronavirus = no peace. A God with total control = total peace. Back & forth somewhere in the middle = your peace is back & forth somewhere in the middle. So press into God’s Word & remember who it is you’re trusting. Guard your heart & mind (Prov 4:23).
• Do not be disappointed with God because we are seeing trouble. He never promised that we wouldn’t see trouble, He actually warned us we would - John 16:33. It is in these uncertain times that we see how certain God is by contrast: “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed” (Isa 54:10). The promise isn’t that the mountains won’t depart. The promise is that when they do, God’s relationship with us will not. He is with us & for us forever. Even if everything stable becomes unstable...the one steady place in the universe to look is to the love of God for us in Christ Jesus.
• Even if more bad comes our way, Christians will endure nothing bad that won’t ultimately be used for good. That doesn’t mean coronavirus is good. It is bad. It doesn’t mean I know how God can use coronavirus for good. I don’t. But it means we can know that no pain is wasted. God has promised to make all our pain count for something meaningful. (Romans 8:28)
• Most people aren’t fearing for their physical safety or their actual life, but even if you are, Jesus says don’t waste your time: “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body... (Luke 12:4-5). How can Jesus say this? Because the next life is more important than this one. Don’t fear coronavirus that could kill you, that’s all it can do. Why? Because if that happens, you wake up in a place a billion times better than your best day here on earth. Don’t get me wrong, I plan to be here a while but hold life loosely enough to be looking forward to the next!
