Painting Smiles for Brevard Sculpture Class was a complete success!

A special thank you to our award-winning sculptor and art teacher, Rafael Picón, whose work includes the Ponce de León statue in Melbourne Beach. We are grateful to have an accomplished local artist sharing his talent, experience and passion for the arts with our children.

During this special class, the children learned directly from Picón how to sculpt a dolphin, giving them a hands-on opportunity to explore sculpture, creativity and artistic expression.

Thank you also to our program director, Franciele Ursullino; Samuel Rodriguez; and all the children who participated in this wonderful event.

A special thank you to McDonald’s on Babcock Street for providing Happy Meals at a discounted price for the children, and to all the parents for supporting their children and encouraging their participation.

Painting Smiles for Brevard is proud to provide free arts opportunities where children can learn from talented artists, develop new skills and discover their own creativity.
Thank you to everyone who made this special sculpture class a success!

From Brevard to Colombia: A community united to help 🇨🇴

These photos capture part of a humanitarian mission that brought Brevard County together to support families affected by the earthquake in Colombia.

The effort was led by Access One Insurance, the Brevard Hispanic Center and Thrifty Specialty Produce & Meats, with the support of local businesses, organizations, churches, schools, volunteers and residents.

Donations collected throughout Brevard County were sorted, packed and transported to Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) in Doral, where we had the opportunity to see firsthand how humanitarian supplies are received, inspected and prepared for disaster response.

Special thanks to Sandra Garcia and Access One Insurance; Thrifty Specialty Produce & Meats; María Paulina Adams and the Latin American Club of Titusville; Diana Chaves and Titusville High School; The Church at Viera; Arepa Con Qué; La Estancia de Luisa; and BCASCA for supporting this community effort.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to those who made financial contributions to help make the mission possible, including Blanca Rubio, Anna Albury, Maggie Stubbe, Eileen Bennett and Miranda Capparelli, BCASCA, Thrifty Specialty Produce and Meets as well as everyone who donated supplies, contributed financially, volunteered, packed boxes or helped spread the word.

At GEM, Santiago Neira and the team gave us a closer look at what happens after donations arrive and how the organization continues its humanitarian work in Colombia.

Thank you, Brevard County, for coming together for Colombia.

More details, interviews and the complete story of this humanitarian mission will be published in the September edition of AL DÍA TODAY.
