“The American Flag is the symbol of our Republic. It stands for the ideals of liberty, justice, and equality under law. It represents the sacrifices of those who have defended our nation and the freedoms we cherish.”

Today, ER Sandra and the officers of Greater Palisades conducted its annual Flag Day observance. Thank you to DD Sissy, PDD Karen and PDD Steve for participating, to our flag bearers; Pam, Joey, Joe and Richie and all members who attended.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has a long and unique connection to Flag Day.

In 1907, the Grand Lodge of the Elks designated June 14 as Flag Day, requiring every lodge to hold a patriotic observance honoring the American flag.

The Elks were among the earliest national organizations to promote annual Flag Day celebrations across the United States.

At that time, Flag Day was not yet a nationally recognized holiday. The Elks’ efforts helped build public support for Flag Day.

In 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress officially establishing National Flag Day.

Today, the Elks remain the only fraternal organization that mandates an annual Flag Day ceremony in every lodge, continuing a tradition that has lasted for more than a century.

On June 14, 1777, Congress declared that the flag of the United States should consist of 13 alternating red and white stripes, and 13 white stars on a blue field, representing a "new constellation".

Come join us at the lodge as we honor the national flag and celebrate American heritage, unity, and patriotism.

Please let us know by Wednesday if you will be attending if you haven’t already

On Memorial Day, we honor and remember the heroes who gave their lives in service to the United States. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we enjoy today.

As members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, we stand united in gratitude for the courage, duty, and selflessness of the fallen. We also extend our heartfelt remembrance to the families who carry their legacy forward.

Today, Greater Palisades was honored to take part in three separate remembrance events.

In Cliffside Park, PDD Karen and Sue H. were joined by PSP Diego Tabbachino at a wreath laying ceremony in Memorial Park, while George P. represented our lodge in Fort Lee’s ceremony.

Another contingent from the lodge marched in the Palisades Park Memorial Day Parade. ER Sandra was joined by Jodi M, Rich Z, Dennis M, PER Rob H and PER Mark.

Lastly, members Rob L, William D, Julio M, Bobby S, Chris A, Rose L, Glenn T, Melissa D and Nicole P all took part in the observance via their roles with the PPPD, PPFD, DPW and Recreation Committee.
