"Organizations Helping Organizations" A Collaborative Rescue Approach

Animal Life Savers has been supporting our local shelter for over eight years. In past years, we pulled animals from the shelter and placed them directly into our foster homes.

Over the past few years, we have been taking a slightly different approach. Instead of only fostering, we are helping other rescue organizations get a stronger start by providing medical care for incoming shelter kittens. This includes vaccinations, testing, and deworming. The partner organizations then take the kittens to their adoption events and complete the adoption process.

This collaboration helps newer and growing rescue groups keep their adoption fees lower, since their upfront medical costs for these kittens are significantly reduced.

Through our hands-on experience in rescue and years of working directly with these animals, along with support from our longtime veterinary partners, we are able to provide much of this care ourselves as part of the intake and preparation process, rather than relying on outside clinics for every step. This allows us to efficiently get the kittens healthy, stabilized, and adoption-ready.

For adult cats, we try and go a step further and provide spay/neuter services, testing, and vaccinations for the rescue organizations.

It’s a win-win for everyone involved—especially the animals.

Below are some of the cats and kittens currently in the shelter that we are helping. If you are interested in learning more, please email me. [email protected]

A Happy Day for Chickie! 🐓❤️

Chickie escaped on April 8, 2026, from a truck while on the way to a poultry store. Her journey to freedom began on 45th Street in North Bergen, where she was found sitting in front of a senior citizens' nutrition center.

A kind woman called me for help and from that moment on, Chickie began to experience love, kindness, and compassion.

Today, thanks to volunteers Carol and Wayne, Chickie made the trip to Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue, where we discovered that "she" is actually a 5-month-old rooster!

Enjoy your freedom, Chickie! You were a pleasure to care for, and we wish you a long, happy life at the sanctuary. ❤️🐓
