Who knew that celebrating honeybees and pollinators could take so many fun paths?

Guests at the FREE Colorado Honeybee Festival presented by Safeway on Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at Cross Orchards Historic Site can pick up some facts at these featured activities:

• Dr. John Mola, Assistant Professor of Ecology at Colorado State University, will explore the relationship of Honeybees to the overall environment in his “Bee Cool” talk in the Barn.
• Our own Palisade Insectary Director Dan Bean will bring his fascinating collection of critters to explain how “Good Bugs” can help us in our gardens and other situations.
• Always popular, the highly competitive KREX Spelling Bee where local school kids go head to head on correct spelling of a variety of “B” words. Last kid standing is the winner who gets a prize. Our costumed BEE LADIES Ellen Scott and Julia Dumaj will wrangle our contestants.
• Enriching our mix, our educational vendors will have examples of their particular focus.

Cooking with Honey, Chef demos!

How sweet it is when our dynamic duo — culinary expert Dixie Burmeister and Wine Country Inn Executive Chef Chad Griffith — team up to create imaginative dishes using local honey! They research recipes and always come up with wonderful dishes, which they demonstrate how to make at home. Then guests get to eat the props! Can’t get much better than that.

Chef and Dixie will be strutting their stuff at 12:50 in the Barn at Cross Orchards Historic Site. Besides samples, they will have brochures about cooking with honey available for guests. If those delicious samples whet your appetite for more, you can meander over to the various food vendors who will have more substantial fare for purchase.

Colorado Honeybee Festival presented by Safeway adds even more fun choices this year

Just when you thought the Colorado Honeybee Festival had all the activities you can handle, the popular FREE event has added a train ride, a bump and jump house and demos of farming skills from yesteryear.

The Festival will still feature live music, and the ever -popular Best Bee Costume for kids, seniors, families, dogs and very patient kitties. A fancy bird even showed up one year. A competitive Spelling Bee for school age kids, a Chef’s demo about cooking with honey, expert speakers, lots of good food and interesting vendor booths will keep everybody plenty busy all day.

All this good -natured creativity is aimed at celebrating honeybees and pollinators which keep our famous peaches and other crops producing the best fresh produce on the planet!

This Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m is the Colorado Honeybee Festival presented by Safeway . Parking at the Colorado Honeybee Festival is free. Here are the parking options.

• Onsite Parking – Limited parking will be available at Cross Orchards Historic Site. Because space may fill quickly, attendees are encouraged to use the additional shuttle locations.
• Grand Mesa Middle School – Shuttles will run every 15 minutes to the festival grounds.
• Crossroads United Methodist Church – Shuttles will run every 15 minutes to the festival grounds.
• Grande River Vineyards– Hourly shuttle service will run from Palisade to the festival starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Colorado Honeybee Festival, formerly known as the Palisade International Honeybee Festival (PIHF), celebrates a new name and new location for 2026.

The popular festival, which has educated people on the importance of the honeybee and other pollinators, will be celebrating this year at the: Cross Orchards Historic Site, where we will feature over 100 vendors, chef demonstrations, student spelling bee, costume contests and more.
