Texas A&M Forest Service raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3 due to continued hot and dry conditions as well as an increase in current and expected wildfire activity across the state.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.

Wednesday, March 19th will feature cooler temperatures, but a broad area of elevated to critical post-frontal fire weather nearly statewide resulting in very high to extreme fire danger. Surface fuel that is dry to extremely dry will support high potential for wildfire activity for most of Texas. High risk brush/grass surface fuel in the Cross Timbers, Eastern/Western Hill Country, and Rolling Plains will have moderate potential for large fires with high resistance to control. A large fire in dry pine timber fuel in Central and East is possible. Critically dry to extremely dry surface fuel in South Texas, Lower and Upper Gulf Coast will support a large fire in dormant grass/brush. Incident Information - Texas A&M Forest Service

🔥Alert: Extreme Wildfire Danger Today (March 14).🔥

Extreme fire weather conditions are expected to be widespread in North Texas near Abilene, Childress, Lubbock, and Wichita Falls.

High winds, sustained between 30 and 40 mph with gusts greater than 60 mph, and low humidity will align with dry vegetation across the area and may result in large wildfires that are difficult to control. Evacuations may be necessary under these conditions.

A Southern Plains Wildfire Outbreak may develop under these conditions. Any wildfire that ignites in dry vegetation could have forward rates of spread up to six miles per hour.

Stay WILDFIRE ALERT today! If a wildfire is spotted, immediately contact local authorities. A quick response can help save lives and property.
