Nearly 28,000 students in grades 9-12 enter the VFW Voice of Democracy audio essay scholarship contest every year in hopes of winning a share of $1.6 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through this program. This year’s theme is "What a Veteran Taught Me About America"

Entries must be submitted to Joe Garza at VFW Post 8924 no later than midnight on October 31. Click the Youth and Education tab at https://vfw.org/ for rules, eligibility requirements and an entry form.

More than 800,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest each year. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $55,000, with each first-place state winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level. The national first-place winner wins $5,000.

Illustrating America Art Contest DEADLINE 15 DECEMBER 2027

Do you know a student in grades K-8 with a passion for art? VFW Auxiliary is pleased to present this national art contest designed to introduce, encourage and recognize young artists with patriotism through artistic expression. Entries will be judged on effort and the process of creation through elements like line, shape and color with focus on patriotic themes and techniques. Art entries will be judged in three grade divisions; K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each division.
