The first official Florida Azalea Pageant was held in the amphitheater of Ravine Gardens State Park in Palatka, FL in 1938. The amphitheater was built in the park to host the annual Azalea Pageant. The Florida Azalea Pageant is the oldest running pageant in Florida. In it's early days, the Azalea Pageant was a preliminary to the Miss Florida Pageant. Also held that year was the first official Flor

ida Azalea Festival. Originating as Jaycees Day, the local chapter of the Jaycees organization transformed the event into the festival celebrated today. In the early years the festival was centered at the Ravine Gardens. As its popularity grew, most of the activities were moved to the riverfront in downtown Palatka. The modern event is conducted by the Palatka Main Street program and sponsored by Downtown Palatka, Inc. (the downtown merchant's association). The Azalea Pageant is held in February every year. It is a working pageant with events and fundraisers throughout the year for the royal court to attend. Categories are Baby Miss, Toddler Miss, Petite Miss, Tiny Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, Miss, and Ms. For more information regarding the pageant, call Pageant Chairs:
