We rarely receive adoption applications let alone ones that we think are “perfect!” But that rare opportunity came to us a couple of weeks ago when a family was searching for a friendly companion for their shy boy who had lost his bonded sister to liver lobe torsion surgery. At the same time, WB volunteer Susie knew of an extremely sweet bunny that was taken in by Anti-Cruelty of Chicago. Because of Anti-Cruelty’s flexibility and quest for good bunny homes, they allowed her to meet our applicants. To achieve this meeting, Anti-Cruelty society volunteer Ron picked her up & WB Susie brought her to Wonder Bunny. The meeting went really great and Buffy (now Stormy) has found herself a new home!! She will be free roam once bonding is completed. Thank you Ron, Caren and Susie for getting this girl to safety after discovering the sad conditions in which she was previously living. And, thank you to Stormy’s new family for already loving her!

Yesterday morning, our sassy but sweet alum bun Princess Polly left behind her wonderful family and husbun Oreo to cross the rainbow bridge. Having had a dental in the past year, her mom thought she needed another one when her eating changed and her litter skills were off. The teeth were good so she was treated for a uti. Over the weekend she was up and down. Her mom brought her back to the doctor. Bloodwork was done and showed severe kidney failure and passed at home the next morning. I feel so bad for her family. They spoiled her and Oreo (Dutch). Polly started out as a dumped bunny but ended a princess.
Rest in a peace sweetheart❤️

The number of dumped bunnies has gone down this past year. I’m hopeful that awareness has stopped folks from buying a rabbit as a gift. Let’s keep that momentum going!

Why are you seeing lots of people with this pink profile picture?

Because it’s that time of year again. Easter is about a month away.

So we made something for you.

We created a pink profile picture you can use between now and Easter to help spread a very important message: bunnies are not Easter gifts.

Every single year, we see what happens after the baskets are empty and the candy is gone. The impulse fades. The reality doesn’t. And the rabbits are the ones who pay the price.

What if this year looked different?

What if timelines everywhere were filled with tiny pink reminders that rabbits are living, breathing, long-term commitments - not seasonal decorations?

If even one family pauses before buying a bunny because they saw your profile photo, that’s a life changed.

Together, we can shift the narrative.

Most of our care videos are now available on our website, along with our completely free virtual education course, and tons of other rabbit resources. Education saves lives.

So here’s the ask:

Make this your profile picture until Easter.
Start conversations.
Gently educate.
Share our page.
Be the reason someone chooses adoption…or chooses to wait.

Small actions add up.
Pink profile photos can make big waves.

Easter is coming so here’s our list of things to consider before bringing rabbits into your home 🤩

1. Rabbits are high maintenance pets. They aren’t easy!
2. Rabbits aren’t great pets for children. One of the top 3 reasons people want to surrender their rabbits is “kids lost interest.” They also require a close and watchful eye from an adult because their health can decline quickly and the signs are often subtle.
3. Rabbits need to be kept safe from predator pets like cats and dogs. We have seen rabbits die of fright from simply being chased.
4. Rabbits can live up to 15 years and require significantly more involved care in their golden years to keep them comfy and happy.
5. Rabbits are EXPENSIVE. These days one simple emergency visit for an anorexic rabbit will easily run around $1000 in our area.
6. Rabbits need SPACE. They are not cage animals and a 4x4 pen is never enough either. The minimum space needed is 10ftx6ft *at all times*
7. Rabbits are naturally messy and destructive! Chewing on everything and digging are natural behaviors.
8. Rabbits need rabbits! They are social animals who naturally live in large groups. Bonding must be done properly with the rabbits choosing their own companions.

The bunnies and I want to thank the Angel family and their supporters of The Bunny Palace for donating to Steve’s birthday fundraiser for Wonder Bunny! Over 10 years ago, the Angels adopted our sweet & spunky Princess LuLu after their beloved Smokey passed away. Every year the family does a birthday fundraiser to support the rescue that brought them LuLu. The Angels have moved out of state and now take in bunnies that people in their area no longer want. Although beautiful LuLu has now passed, her legacy of bunny rescue is alive with the Angel family❤️

Pogo, Smudge and Nellie say Merry Christmas too! They can’t wait for their friends Cash & Pickles to arrive tomorrow! #

The Wonder buns and their friends who are lodging at WB want to wish every bun a Merry Christmas! Auntie Susie made Christmas morning super special! She brought them a huge box of small pet select orchard hay! Yum yum! And she set up a festive coffee bar and had pretty Christmas music playing too.

I’m really lucky to have great volunteers on the weekends! On Saturdays, Susie, Laura & Aiyana are faithful regulars.😍 Today however Brittany’s son Maverick came out to help after his Gymnastics class! He is a true bunny lover. Just recently he spoke his first “I love you.” It was not to mom or dad but to their WB alumbun Rizzo (aka Moo). Brittany was shocked when she heard “ I Love you Moo❤️”
