Thank you to everyone for joining us at the Roots Garden's Appreciation night. As this marks the end of our official summer calendar together at Roots Garden, we want to again thank all of the parents, the children, and the community partners who helped make our 2026 season a success. We celebrated the end of our time together by painting a Peace Pole that will be set up and installed in one of our garden beds for the 2027 season so that we'll all have a reminder of the people who made this year possible. We also saw a lot of creativity come out with our photo frame decoration craft with photos from the summer being put into the frames. And everyone got to take home a little treat from the garden too! (Homemade tomato sauce, pickles, and various crops from tonight's harvest).
Thank you to Seth Moland-Kovash for coming to speak tonight to our families and thank them for their hard work all summer. A huge thank you to Laura, Araceli and Lina for everything they did this summer-- from watering our crops during times of drought, setting up art projects or games for the children, or harvesting the crops and sharing with all of the parents and children. Much thanks also to Kelli for her help all summer with setting up some of our family night activities and for being a consistent presence each week at the garden site. And last but not least - a final thank you to each of you who made this garden a special place for the summer. When I think back to my planning meeting with POC staff at the beginning of the year and remember what I wanted the goal for this summer to be, I truly feel we accomplished our goal to create a safe and fun space for the children and families of the community to come together and to learn a thing or two about nature and gardening. While we may at times have grown frustrated with mother nature (the smokey days, the droughts, the heat, the rain storms for several days in a row), and we may at times had been frustrated with an animal eating our crops-- we all persevered and never gave up on the garden space. Thank you to all of you for coming back all summer long and for making this such a beautiful place to spend the summer nights.

Gracias a todos por acompañarnos en la Noche de Agradecimiento de Roots Garden. Ya que esto marca el final de nuestro calendario oficial de verano juntos en Roots Garden, queremos agradecer nuevamente a todos los padres, a los niños y a los socios comunitarios que ayudaron a hacer de nuestra temporada 2026 un éxito.
Celebramos el final de nuestro tiempo juntos pintando un Poste de la Paz que se colocará e instalará en una de nuestras camas de cultivo para la temporada 2027, de modo que todos tengamos un recordatorio de las personas que hicieron posible este año. También vimos mucha creatividad con nuestra manualidad de decoración de portarretratos, en los cuales se colocaron fotos del verano. ¡Y todos pudieron llevarse a casa un pequeño obsequio del jardín también! (Salsa de tomate casera, pepinillos y varias cosechas de la recolección de esta noche).
Gracias a Seth Moland-Kovash por venir a hablar esta noche con nuestras familias y agradecerles por su arduo trabajo durante todo el verano. Un enorme agradecimiento a Laura, Araceli y Lina por todo lo que hicieron este verano: desde regar nuestros cultivos en tiempos de sequía, organizar proyectos de arte o juegos para los niños, hasta cosechar los cultivos y compartirlos con todos los padres y niños. Muchas gracias también a Kelli por su ayuda todo el verano con la organización de algunas de nuestras actividades de la noche familiar y por ser una presencia constante cada semana en el sitio del jardín.
Y por último, pero no menos importante, un agradecimiento final a cada uno de ustedes que hizo de este jardín un lugar especial para el verano. Cuando recuerdo mi reunión de planificación con el personal de POC a principios de año y pienso en lo que quería que fuera la meta para este verano, realmente siento que logramos nuestro objetivo de crear un espacio seguro y divertido para que los niños y las familias de la comunidad se reunieran y aprendieran una que otra cosa sobre la naturaleza y la jardinería.
Aunque a veces nos hayamos sentido frustrados con la madre naturaleza (los días de humo, las sequías, el calor, las tormentas de lluvia durante varios días seguidos), y a veces nos hayamos frustrado con algún animal que se comía nuestros cultivos, todos perseveramos y nunca nos rendimos con el espacio del jardín. Gracias a todos ustedes por regresar durante todo el verano y por hacer de este un lugar tan hermoso para pasar las noches de verano.
