This month, we’re celebrating Native Nonprofit Day 🤎🌿✨

At Acorns to Oak Trees, every donation helps us continue showing up for Native children and families across California through developmental screenings, therapy services, advocacy, outreach clinics, parent support, and early intervention services that are often difficult to access in Tribal communities.

But this year, we’re dreaming even bigger. 🏡🪶

We are working to build a new clinic space that will allow us to expand services for Native children and families who deserve culturally rooted, compassionate, and accessible care close to home. The need is growing every single day, and so many families are still traveling hours or going without services entirely.

This clinic represents hope.
Hope for earlier intervention.
Hope for families searching for answers.
Hope for children to receive the support they deserve while staying connected to culture and community.

When you support Native-led nonprofits, you are investing directly back into Indigenous communities and helping create lasting change for future generations. 🌱

Whether you donate, share our mission, attend an event, or simply help spread the word — you are part of this journey with us.

Help us grow something beautiful for our children and families. 🌳🤍 Click the link in our bio and head to our website to donate! Each donation is tax deductible as we are a 501c3! 😀❤️

🌱 Introducing Acorns Early Learners Program 🌱
Rooted in culture. Guided by connection. Designed for our youngest learners and their families.

Every child deserves a strong start—and every family deserves support along the way. Our Acorn’s Early Learner’s Program brings nurturing, personalized guidance right into the home, meeting families where they are with respect, care, and cultural understanding. We offer onboarding and monthly incentives to help families with basic needs to support their participation in services because we know families need additional support right now! ❤️

✨ What is Acorns Early Learners?
• One-on-one support for families with young children (prenatal to early childhood)
• Fun, hands-on activities that promote learning through play
• Guidance on developmental milestones and early learning
• Support that honors your family’s culture, values, and traditions
• A trusted partner to walk alongside you in your parenting journey

🌼 How it helps your child and family thrive:
• Builds strong foundations for early learning and school readiness
• Encourages language, motor, and social-emotional development
• Strengthens parent-child connection through meaningful interactions
• Provides tools and ideas to make everyday moments learning opportunities
• Connects families to resources and community supports when desired

This is about lifting families up, celebrating each child’s strengths, and creating spaces where learning feels natural, joyful, and connected to who we are.

💛 You are your child’s first and most important teacher—and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

April is OT month!

We interviewed some of our team with common OT questions. Play along and see how many you get right!

Answers:
A three jaw chuck grasp is hand technique where the thumb opposes the pads of both the index and middle fingers to secure an object. Commonly used for writing, feeding, and manipulating small items, this grasp develops around 2–3 years old as a foundation for fine motor skills.
The 8 sensory systems are: visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, gustatory, vestibular (balance), proprioception (body awareness), and interoception (internal sensations).
An ADL is an activity of daily living!
The four colors of the Zones of Regulation are red, yellow, blue, and green.

Tell us in the comments why you love OT!

April is Autism Acceptance Month 💙🧩

At Acorns to Oak Trees, we don’t just recognize autism—we embrace, uplift, and celebrate every child for who they are. Autism is not something to “fix.” It is something to understand, respect, and support with intention, compassion, and love 🤍

But we also want to speak honestly about something that often goes unspoken…

The version of autism most often shown in media—the one that is more socially palatable, more easily understood, even sometimes glorified—is not the reality for many of the families we serve.

Many of our families are raising children with profound autism. Children who may be non-speaking. Children who need significant daily support. Children whose behaviors are often misunderstood by the public.

And for these families, “acceptance” still doesn’t always feel real.

Because when they go out into the community, they are still met with stares.
With questioning looks.
With judgment.

Not because their child is doing anything wrong—but because their child doesn’t fit the version of autism people have come to expect from what they’ve seen on TV or in movies.

True acceptance means making space for all expressions of autism—not just the ones that are easy to understand.

✨ It means extending compassion instead of judgment
✨ It means supporting families navigating complex needs
✨ It means advocating for services, communication supports, and care
✨ It means recognizing that inclusion must include everyone

To our families—you are seen. Your children are valued. And your experiences matter.

Acceptance isn’t just awareness. It’s action. It’s empathy. It’s standing beside families in both the beautiful and the hard moments.

And we will continue to advocate—for every child, every voice, and every family 💙

Honored to spend time with future Speech-Language Pathologists at the University of Oklahoma this week 🤍

Thank you to my niece and future Native SLP, Dakota .eberly, Dr. Kimball and OU for the opportunity to share about the work we are doing through Acorns to Oak Trees and what it truly means to serve children and families in underserved communities—especially within Tribal communities.

We had powerful conversations about what it means to be more than a clinician. To be an advocate. To be a voice when families feel unheard. To stand firm when systems push back.

Because the reality is… you will be in rooms where decisions are made based on cost, convenience, or policy—not always what a child truly needs. And in those moments, your role matters more than ever.

Our children need professionals who will:
✨ Speak up when something isn’t right
✨ Advocate for services, devices, and supports—even when it’s uncomfortable
✨ Understand the cultural and systemic barriers families face
✨ Stand beside families, not systems

You are often the voice for those who don’t yet have one—and that is a responsibility and privilege that should never be taken lightly.

The work is not always easy. There will be barriers. There will be resistance. But there is also impact, healing, and change when you choose to do what is right over what is easy.

So proud of the next generation stepping into this field—and hopeful for the difference you will make.
