* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of east central, northeast, south central, and
southeast Kentucky, including the following counties, in east
central Kentucky, Bath, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Menifee,
Montgomery, Powell and Rowan. In northeast Kentucky, Johnson and
Martin. In south central Kentucky, Laurel and Rockcastle. In
southeast Kentucky, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson,
Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley,
Perry, Pike and Wolfe.

* WHEN...Through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- One or more rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected
today. Where thunderstorms are most persistent, flash
flooding could result.

Monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flash Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

* At 739 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Martha, or
over Blaine, moving southeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Let's make safety a top priority by knowing the rules of the road. Drivers need to know how a new Kentucky law (KRS 189.370) impacts what they should do if they see a bus with red flashing lights and an extended stop arm:

• When this occurs on a road with more than two lanes that doesn't have a raised or unpaved median, traffic in all directions and lanes must stop.

• The only exception to this law is on a four-lane or more road that includes a raised or unpaved median. In this instance, traffic opposite to the extended stop arm may proceed.

The Kentucky State Police's top priority is keeping everyone safe at school, work, home and on the road.

Our Health Educator Mary Beth Castle spent the morning at Ready Fest. We love helping our kids get what they need for back to school. We wish all of our Johnson/Paintsville kids a safe and happy school year!

Once again, we are looking at the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms this weekend. I mentioned a round for Saturday that could get gusty. This is that round for August 1st, 2026.
