At approx 2154 hrs Painesville Township along with automatic aid from Painesville City Firefighters Local 434, Concord Professional Firefighters IAFF 3329, Leroy Twp. Fire Department,Fairport Harbor Fire Department, and Perry Joint Fire District were dispatched to the intersection of Bank street and Painesville-Warren road for a commercial structure fire. Units arrived on scene to find a fully involved abandoned structure. Due to the offset of the structure from the street, the fire was difficult to access and a significant amount of supply hose had to be laid to move water to the area. Throughout the night Painesville Township firefighters will be on scene watching for hot spots in what’s left of the structure. You can expect to see smoke in the area during your morning commute. When you dial 911 and the first arriving fire truck/ambulance finds an unstable situation or person not able to be reached by normal means, this is who we call! All departments on the east end of lake county provide manpower and specialist to assist the responding crews to manage unique and unstable scenes.

At approx. 0939 hrs this morning Painesville Township was dispatched to the 1000 block of Madison Avenue for an attached garage fire.
Stations 1, 2 and 3 along with auto-aid from Painesville City Firefighters Local 434,
Perry Joint Fire District, Leroy Twp. Fire Department and Fairport Harbor Fire Department responded. Upon calling en route Lake County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Frank Leonbruno central dispatch updated that a significant amount of calls were being received for this incident. Station 2 was first on scene and found heavy fire in an attached garage. A transitional attack was quickly started and the fire was brought under control. We thank all the before mentioned entities who helped with this incident. 🔥 🚒 🚔 🚑

Please avoid the area of Madison Avenue west of Bowhall Rd due to crews operating on a working structure fire. 🔥🚒

It’s important to share the multitude of events that occurred last evening due to the uncertainty that’s been expressed.

In a time frame of approx. 2 hours, Painesville Township firefighters responded to 8 calls for service. 4 of those 8 calls included:
-Unconscious Minor
-Home filling with smoke
-Possible stroke
-the highly publicized traffic crash on route 2 involving an OHP officer.

Further details will be shared through other sources on the last incident as the appropriate parties involved are notified.

In further news, as we inspected the new 2712, Chief Burchak made an executive decision to lock in the purchase of a second squad. This was with the blessing of township trustees to do so if he was satisfied with his findings today.
This agreement keeps the price in a year and a half similar to today’s price.
Along with finances, this decision breaks the mold and sets a new standard of our department no longer being reactive, but proactive.
We are expecting an almost identical ambulance to be delivered in early 2028 and serve out of the Hardy rd. fire house.
As always, we hope you never need us! But decisions are consistently being made to improve our response if the need arises!
