One heck of a forest grown Shumard Oak (Quercus Shumardi) in Montgomery County.... A thick stem that's starting to flare out for the plenty of growth to come.

Shumard's are in the red oak family and have the potential to get the largest in size of all red oak types. It's said to have a grayish overtone making it quite unique as compared to Northern Red Oak. 🌳💪🌳🇺🇲🌳👀🌳

A BEAST indeed at 223" in circumference and 105' tall. Top 10 in Ohio.

One of my favorite Tuliptrees (Liriodendron tulipifera) in Ohio located in Berea, Ohio.

Big, old, and sprawling, with a house built in 1834.... Guessing the house was built when the tree was quite small in stature.

What a whopper at 229" in circumference, over 112' tall, with a 115' average crown spread. 🌳👀🌳🇺🇲🌳💪🌳

We're so happy to have been able to document this MEGA Common Hackberry tree in the Lancaster area of Fairfield County before its scheduled removal. Thank you Eli Collamore and Mackenzie Callander for stopping by and getting it done for Big Trees Ohio.

It was heavily damaged in a big storm this year snapping center leaders, multiple large branches, and snapping all the cabling. Not to mention it's rotting out on one side. The owners love the tree and are absolutely distraught on having to remove it for safety reasons. Thank you Barbara for reaching out and asking us to come out and document it for the historical records. 🌳🇺🇲🌳🙏🌳👀🌳

The final numbers came out at a MEGA 208" in circumference, around 88' tall, with an 86' average crown spread. An impressive 318 points. Long live the MEGA 👏🌳🍻🌳🥂!!

HOCKING GROWS THEM BIG – OAKS, THAT IS
The Logan Daily News of August 12, 1955
Logan’s unofficial claim to have the largest white oak tree in Ohio was short-lived.
The Logan entry in the Ohio Forestry Association contest for the biggest-of-species is in the northeast corner of the Old Cemetery – it measures 16 feet 6 inches, which is six inches larger than the one at Strongville, which had been touted as largest in the state.
Yesterday afternoon, Lucius Harble of Washington Twp., nominated a giant white oak on his farm as the state’s largest – it measures 18 feet, according to Mr. Harble.
This afternoon, Ircin Chilcote informed the Logan Daily News that a white oak on the Charles Burns farm in Starr Twp. Measures 20 feet, w inches and has a spread of 115 feet.
Joshua Matheny nominated the Old Cemetery oak in search of Ohio’s largest trees.
Ralph McCombs, representative of the Ohio Forestry Association, said that William Bozett, district forester, will take official measurements of all trees nominated by the Hocking Countians. He said the response to the associations search for tree giants has been “terrific.”

HOCKING COUNTY POPLAR TREE NOMINATED BIGGEST IN STATE

A Hocking County poplar tree with a circumference of 13 feet nine inches is among the latest nominations in the Ohio State Forestry Association’s search for the biggest individual tree of each species.
The poplar was reported by Charles F. Barker. It is located on his farm off Walhonding Ave., South Logan.
The forestry association told William Bosett of Logan, consulting forester, that it has had few nominations for tallest trees among several species, and that those in the group for such nominations have been received had small measurements.
Among those for which more nominations are hoped is the state tree, the buckeye. Others include red and scarlet oak, beech, dogwood (no nominations at all as of yet), sycamore, yellow poplar, black gum, hemlock, w2hite pine, black walnut and butternut (white walnut).
The Hocking area currently is leading the state in nominations for the biggest white oak, with three submitted that appear to be larger than the one at Strongsville, previously believed to be the largest in the state.
Mr. Bozett will take official measurements of trees being nominated by Hocking Countians.

NOTE: I have been looking for and have not found the results of the contest yet. I will continue looking.
