🏡 Through intentional, collaborative partnerships, Extended Housing Inc. (EHI) is changing lives in Lake County!

At Extended Housing’s Partners In Purpose event on September 23rd, Executive Director Karen McLeod shared the incredible impact of community support.

In the 2026 fiscal year alone, 218 EHI clients received housing support across multiple initiatives, backed by over 3,000 hours of dedicated service from our housing support workers. This ongoing support helps clients with mental health diagnoses not just stay housed but truly thrive in our community.

Guests learned that the agency waitlist closed in 2023, due to a lack of funding and affordable housing options, leaving 27 Lake County households remaining on that waitlist. This past year, the agency received more than 93 calls from individuals in need of housing assistance. "This is why the mission must continue", Karen explained. She demonstrated that the efforts from homelessness towards independence are only successful through meaningful collaboration with our community partners, compassionate staff and the commitment of our mission-driven board of directors.

You too can be a Partner in Purpose! 🌟 Help change the stigma of homelessness and mental health by spreading awareness, sharing our newsletters, hosting an EHI fundraiser, reposting our social media, volunteering and donating.

Why Supportive Housing Works
Supportive housing is one of the most measured, cost-effective, and accountable solutions for communities responding to visible homelessness. Supportive housing combines affordable housing with support services tailored to individual needs. Across the country, supportive housing helps communities do more with their resources, while delivering better outcomes for the people they serve.

Supportive housing works because it:

Improves stability and well-being for individuals and families
Reduces reliance on expensive crisis systems, including shelters, hospitals, and jails
Strengthens communities by addressing interconnected challenges
Advances shared priorities, including homelessness, behavioral health, veterans’ services, youth well-being, and community safety.

What’s Burning?

The smell of smoke along with the haze currently impacting our area are from the Canadian Wildfires.

The EPA has issued a Hazardous Air Quality Index (AQI) for our area. If you have asthma, other breathing conditions, allergies, or other health concerns, limit your time outdoors when possible and take appropriate precautions.

Please take care of yourself, check in on family, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable, and stay safe.

And please keep our neighbors to the north in your thoughts as they continue battling more than 830 active wildfires. We are grateful for the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly to protect their communities.
