BREAKING NEWS:
Malibu Beach, California — A shocking and deeply unsettling scene unfolded along the shoreline of Malibu Beach today as multiple large whales were found floating lifeless and overturned near the coast, their massive bodies drifting in shallow waters stained a dark crimson red.

Witnesses described the ocean surface as unnaturally discolored, with thick red patches spreading across the waves, suggesting severe trauma or internal rupture among the animals. At least nine whales are clearly visible, motionless, their pale undersides exposed—an ominous sign of death in marine mammals.

Crowds gathered along the beach as the tragedy unfolded. Photographers, onlookers, and marine researchers wearing protective white suits stood at the water’s edge, documenting the scene while maintaining distance.

“This is one of the most disturbing marine mortality events we’ve seen in this area,” said a marine biologist on site. “The number of whales, the condition of the bodies, and the discoloration of the water point to a catastrophic cause.”

Possible Causes Under Investigation
Experts are urgently investigating several possibilities, including:

Acoustic trauma from naval sonar or underwater explosions
Toxic algal blooms or chemical contamination
Seismic activity or underwater disturbances
Ship strikes or mass disorientation events
No official cause has yet been confirmed, but early indicators suggest this was not a natural, isolated death.

Environmental and Public Impact
Local authorities have warned residents and tourists to avoid contact with the water until testing is complete. Air quality, water toxicity, and marine pathogen assessments are currently underway.

Environmental groups are calling this event a wake-up call, emphasizing the fragile state of ocean ecosystems and the growing frequency of large-scale marine die-offs worldwide.
As the sun set over the normally tranquil Malibu coastline, the silhouettes of the whales remained—silent, massive, and haunting—turning a world-famous beach into the epicenter of an unfolding environmental mystery.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow as investigations continue.

✨British swimmer Rob Howes was enjoying a calm swim with his daughter off New Zealand’s North Island when the ocean suddenly revealed something extraordinary. 🌊👨‍👧

✨A pod of dolphins appeared out of nowhere, circling tightly around them and gently herding them toward the center. Each time Rob tried to swim away, two dolphins guided him back—protective, insistent, as if guarding against an unseen threat. 🐬✨

💦The danger soon revealed itself: a great white shark, nearly three meters long, was moving into the area. Instantly, the dolphins’ behavior shifted. They slapped the water with their tails, darted in coordinated bursts, and formed a living barrier—clearly working to intimidate and drive the predator away. 😀😀

🌸For almost forty minutes, the dolphins held their protective formation, refusing to let Rob and his daughter leave until the shark finally retreated. Only then did they open the circle, allowing the two swimmers to reach safety.

🍂The remarkable scene was witnessed by a lifeguard and several beachgoers, adding to the growing accounts of dolphins displaying extraordinary defensive instincts to shield humans from shark attacks. 🐬🤍♥️

Baby’s first bubble-net feeding 🐋 Mother humpback whales teach their young to corral prey into a tight ball by creating dual streams of strategically-placed bubbles, a technique passed down through generations.
Mothers often lead, and calves practice countless times, sometimes with their mother below them, until they master the technique.
This fascinating behavior highlights the intelligence and cultural transmission within humpback whale societies, with recent research even studying the specific morphology that enables their unique ability to make such tight turns.

Whales 🐋 engage in bubble-net feeding in Iceland. It is a known hunting technique in Icelandic waters.

This hunting method is a highly coordinated, cooperative effort that requires remarkable communication and learned behavior. The process unfolds in a series of choreographed steps:
1. Creating the "net": A group of whales dives below a school of prey, such as capelin or herring. One or more whales then begin to blow bubbles in a circular or spiral pattern, creating a wall of air that traps the fish.
2. Corralling the prey: The bubbles serve as a visual and auditory barrier. Confused by the "net," the fish are forced into a tight, concentrated bait ball as the whales swim upward.
3. Lunge feeding: The whales lunge up through the center of the bubble net with their mouths wide open, swallowing thousands of fish in a single gulp.

LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Keep Lahaina lands in Lahaina hands.

That is the motto for a community group working to help Maui families stay on the island and move back home.

“As horrific as the fire was, the next one, the one that they call post-disaster gentrification had the potential to be even worse because that’s the one that really threatens to destroy our communities and change our place forever,” said Lahaina Community Land Trust co-founder and Director of Operations.

Nearly two years after the fire disaster, LCLT is sharing success stories.

To date, LCLT has protected 13 properties through acquisition and helped 10 families rebuild.

The Yadao ohana is one of them

The family of five could not afford to rebuild their home and were on the verge of moving away. LCLT helped them through its Keep Lahaina Home Insurance Gap Program which fills the gap to rebuild homes when insurance proceeds fall short.

“I really like the Lahaina Community Land Trust’s goal. They’re helping families rebuild that were affected by the fire and they’re keeping us here,” said Bhejay Yadao.

The Hayase ohana, a family of 13, who has been on Maui for seven generations is another example.

“Before we found out about the Lahaina Community Land Trust … all thirteen of us were planning to cram up in a three-bedroom house,” said Kelsie Hayase.

“I would have to work probably till I’m 80,” said her father Craig who is 68 years old. “They cut that because of the funding and the program. I might be able to retire a lot sooner.”

LCLT also saved 344 Kamano Place.

The lot was owned by a kupuna who passed away in the fire. Her family does not live on Maui but wanted to sell to a local family. So, LCLT purchased the parcel at market rate with county funds, donations from all over the world, and private partnerships.

“People are showing their love for Lahaina in really incredible ways,” said Autumn Ness, LCLT’s Executive Director.

After acquisition, the trust will build a home on the land and then sell the building to a long-term local resident at an affordable price.

“Lahaina is a special place, and Lahaina is only a special place because of its people, and if we don’t do something big, its people are going to be gone,” Ness said.

LCLT also officially launched its new Kaluaehu program, a partnership with local businesses to achieve more success stories.

“For years, we’ve spoken about regenerative tourism, where all the money made in Lahaina stays in Lahaina and this is it,” said Noelle Bali, Kaluaehu Program Manager. “Businesses, while they also have suffered and endured the aftermath of August 8th, they have committed to share a fraction of their wealth made in our community back to our community.”

Bali says before the fire, Lahaina alone employed 8,500 residents and generated $70 million in revenue every month.

She says Lahaina residents never felt the benefits of that.

The Kaluaehu program aims to change that.

Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows (https://www.royallahaina.com/) General Manager Nicholas Kuhns said it is the right thing to do.

“This is who we’ve been. This is who Royal Lahaina will continue to be,” Kuhns said. “It’s an opportunity for us to give back.”

“That’s what we value the most is our local community, our friends and our family,” said real estate agent Lauren Palakiko. “Being born and raised here, my goal is to do just that and that’s exactly what the Lahaina Community Land Trust is doing.”
