Grief is a natural, human response to loss - and many of us who love this ʻāina carry a particular weight: the grief of watching ecosystems change, species disappear, and landscapes transform. This grief is real, and it deserves space.

Join our friend and facilitator, Danielle Pacific, an End of Life Doula and Bodyworker living in ʻOlaʻa, Moku o Keawe, Hawaiʻi, who sits with people in their dying and in their grief. Through her time learning with Hālau ʻŌhiʻa, Danielle has witnessed how deeply grief lives in those who work in conservation. She is dedicated to bringing awareness and practical tools to help us navigate these experiences - both in community and in solitude.

Aloha NUI on this very ! We are feeling especially grateful to reflect back on our memorable 30th anniversary cruise with the Fair Wind Cruises this past weekend -- Together with 70 friends (volunteers, donors, partners, staff, family), we acknowledged some of the MANY milestones of the past three decades and shared a CHEERS for the next 30 years.

We are thankful for these longtime partnerships that help our nonprofit thrive, folks like the Fair Wind Cruises ʻOhana, and new partners like Mo Mane Media (who volunteered to help capture the event in film and create this awesome short video - MAHALO, Mo!) and Kanekoa with Big Island Mini Portraits (photos coming soon).

Not only did we raise some money for a good cause (a new pickup for our Hawaiʻi Island marine debris team in 2027), but we enjoyed some amazing live music by the Keoni Thompson and Gunner Nagata Duo, and delish food (and bevies) by the FW crew, great company and a green-flash sunset. We are so blessed!

Many thanks to everyone who could join us or share your support from afar! We will share more highlights and partnerships from the event soon - and stay posted for more 30th anniversary events coming to MAUI later this month!

Another day, another BAB meeting (board of agriculture and biosecurity) with HWF and Niu Now and Sierra Club and Pōhaku Pelemaka and many others standing up to testify against the spread of CRB 🪲 (coconut rhinoceros beetle!) on behalf of our niu, loulu, hala, food security, and all the animals that rely on these plants 🌿

Good news, our suggestions were added to the interim rule 26-02 for Maui and Lānaʻi… bad news, the Molokaʻi interim rule 25-1 will expire tomorrow and it not be discussed again till next week. Learn more at the story below.

For three decades, Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund has worked to protect the wildlife and wild places that make our islands so special - and none of it would be possible without supporters like you. We'd love for you to join us as we continue to celebrate this milestone throughout 2026 🙂

Together, we have removed over 450 tons of marine debris, helped 14,000 sea turtles make it safely to the ocean, inspired hundreds of local youth become environmental stewards of our coastal/marine ecosystems, and engaged with thousands of visitors and community members in conservation work across three islands.

Mahalo to those of you who joined us in July. Our second flagship celebration returns to Hawaiʻi Island next month on Sunday, October 4th - this time with a sunset boat trip with Fair Wind Cruises, and then we're bringing the aloha to Maui with several more gatherings later this fall.
