A native plant garden tour on Maui!

We're think of organizing a native Hawaiian plant garden tour on Maui, where people can visit existing gardens and get ideas for what they can do at home or work. It hangs on getting enough people who have native plants to open up their yards for a few hours some coming weekend.

Plant trees with us on Oct. 30th, 2020

Lā Ho‘oulu Pae Moku / ReTree Hawaii is a consortium of environmental groups and businesses that are organizing a statewide day of planting for this October 30th. Among the objectives is to offset atmospheric carbon accumulation by sequestering carbon in the form of native plants, with the additional benefits of improving our watersheds and protecting our reefs.

We are currently soliciting participation from hosts (such as hotels, condos, schools, parks, farms, churches, golf courses, conservation groups and homeowners) who register through our website (retree-hawaii.org) to specify themselves as designated sites for planting. The hosts decide how many plants and volunteers they can manage, and where the plantings will be. After the first public announcement of the event, the website will be activated to allow volunteers to select a site where they wish to plant.

ReTree Hawaii currently has 23 sponsors and over 60 hosts identified, but our goal is for 100,000 trees to be planted by 10,000 volunteers at 1000+ sites.

We are working on a combination of public and private funding to cover the expenses (plants, transportation, limited infrastructure, etc) to make this as close to no cost for the hosts as possible, to be offset by the benefits of native plants and of course the excellent PR associated with such a positive event.
