Merryman House

Merryman House MHDCC is the only certified domestic violence program in the Purchase Area with a 36-bed shelter and outreach offices serving 8 counties in Western KY.

MHDCC is the only certified domestic violence program in the Purchase Area Development District. Along with a 36-bed emergency shelter, the MHDCC offers a variety of intervention and prevention programs. The Purchase Area Development District is made up of the 8 most western counties in the state of Kentucky: Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Marshall, and McCracken. Over time,

the Merryman House has become much more than an emergency shelter. It has become a comprehensive advocacy and support center that is devoted to addressing the comprehensive needs of survivors. From its founding to the present, the Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center is committed to Saving, Building and Changing the lives of those affected by domestic violence. Domestic violence services are funded, in part from federal and state funds provided by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services through a contract with ZeroV. The Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center provides services free of charge to survivors of domestic violence and their dependents without regard to race, color, national origin, ethnic origin, religion, creed, age, physical or mental disability, veteran status, uniformed services, political belief, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy or other health status, social or economic status, non-violent criminal history, citizenship, immigration status, marital status, or language spoken. We attended the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce Breakfast this morning. Along with seeing the latest Leadership Paducah graduation (congrats!), we also heard Steve Powless of CSI speak on leadership. His topic was "The Next Chair at the Table", and focused on finding your place among the organizations in our community. He pointed out that it takes at least 4,000 to serve on our local nonprofit boards. 😲

When we say "supporting survivors through every season" we mean it.

In 2025, Merryman House provided 28,618 services, served over 11,000 meals and placed 178 clients on housing programs.

This is just a small snapshot of the overall impact Merryman House has had over the years, serving more than 18,000 survivors. Every spice has the potential to alter a survivor's life. To provide more meals, more services and give equitable job skills - all in hopes to provide a more stable future free of abuse.

We are excited to have THREE winners in the 2026 Purple Ribbon awards this year! Outstanding Partner in a Collaborative (chef sara bradley); Outstanding Young Professional (Brianna Weitlauf); and Volunteer of the Year (Tiffany Mesaris).

The Purple Ribbon Awards are the most comprehensive awards program honoring the countless hopegivers of the domestic violence movement. PRA winners include domestic violence advocates, programs, shelters, organizations, survivors and members of the community support system. Nominations for the Purple Ribbon Awards are submitted from around the world. This year marks the fifth year of the Purple Ribbon Awards, presented by Alliance for HOPE International, the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that operates DomesticShelters.org.
