Dear Donor,

Shane Parker, better known as our favorite local on-air personality Bear on the Air, has been helping those in need since his days playing Santa in Chicago in 1980. For over 40 years, he has been involved in almost every charity in town, from the Special Olympics to Toys for Tots. He has raised money for women and children, animals, the elderly, and pretty much anyone in need. And now he has an idea.

That idea is Bear Cares Community Charity, Inc. He would like to be able to use the vast community resources at our disposal to bulk buy food at cheaper cost to our local charities and hopes to eventually set up a warehouse that would provide food, fresh produce, toiletries, and more to large charities or a single person in need. Bear Cares would be the "charities' charity."

Working with large community charities in the river region such as Paducah Cooperative Ministries, Metropolis' Weekend Blessing, our local libraries, community kitchens, and many more - Bear Cares strives to help meet the needs of all these wonderful organizations.

Food insecurity is greater than ever before. Children, the elderly, the displaced, and others are living every day with hunger. Grandparents are struggling to raise the next generation after parents have fallen prey to drug and alcohol addiction. There are people losing their homes and ending up with nowhere to go. As Bear himself recently said, "I've seen bad, and now I am seeing worse."

What we need from you now is to help us get the word out and start raising funds. We have a page at www.facebook.com/BearCaresCommunityCharities where you can find and share information. We need to reach out to those small charities who are doing great work but may not be as well known, and business and individuals with the resources to help. If you can contribute in any way, you can contact the Bear himself, Shane Parker, at 618-201-7187 or this email address, [email protected]. We are also accepting donations thru these links listed below.
