Hey NOW! The 26th Annual Kahuna Kupuna Surf Contest for men and women surfers from age 40 plus is just a month away on Saturday, June 27th. We are off to a fast start with entries. The 26th Annual Kahuna Kupuna Benefit Surf Contest will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Linda Mar Beach from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. All net proceeds support Pacifica’s Environmental Family (PEF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Registration Information
Registration is open from May 1 through June 20, 2026. The entry fee is $95, which covers participation in both the longboard and shortboard divisions.

Event Details
The contest features age divisions in five-to-ten-year increments for men and women aged 40 to 80+. Each heat is 15 minutes with a maximum of 6 surfers.

We will also offer an Intergenerational Team Division. If you want to form a 6 member I-Team, that represents 3 generations, please contact us directly at [email protected] to reserve a team slot.

Volunteers Needed
This event is entirely volunteer-run. Volunteers receive a complimentary lunch and a ticket to the post-contest dinner. We are looking for help with:

- Planning Committee & Coordination
- Judging, Scoring, and Spotting
- First Aid & Water Safety
- Registration, Setup, and Takedown
- Raffle Coordination & Sponsorship Recruitment

Spectators & Post-Contest Celebration
Spectators are welcome at no charge; we encourage friends and family to bring beach chairs and enjoy the day.

KAHUNA KUPUNA UPDATE! We are now accepting entries for the 26th Annual Kahuna Kupuna Benefit Surf Contest on Saturday, June 27th. We invite men and women surfers who are 40 years of age and older. KAHUNA KUPUNA UPDATE! The 26th Annual Kahuna Kupuna Benefit Surf Contest is slated to take place on Saturday, June 27th at Linda Mar Beach from 7:30am to 5:00pm. It will be followed by a post-contest dinner and awards ceremony at the Pacifica Moose Lodge. Please mark your calendars and come join us as a contestant, spectator, volunteer and/or sponsor.

A new contest planning committee has come together to ensure that the "KUPUNA" continues for years to come. We would welcome a few more people to join the planning committee who can attend about 6 more one-hour meetings between now and the day of the event and be available to assist with various contest related duties in the weeks leading up to and including the day of the contest, June 27th. Mark your calendars for a very special screening of Surfing for Life (2000), a documentary I co-produced with filmmaker David L. Brown that explores healthy aging from the unique perspective of older surfers ranging in age from 60 to 90! It will take place at the Pacifica Community Center, 540 Crespi Drive on Wednesday, December 3rd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

This free screening will be followed by a discussion featuring a panel of local older surfers who will share how their involvement with surfing and our area's vibrant surfing community contributes to their overall well-being.

Kahuna Kupuna Update! We had to close registration because most of our various age divisions were at or close to capacity. This is the first time we had to close registration for the Kupuna so early before the contest!

We encourage everyone who appreciates the art and sport of surfing to come join us on Saturday, July 19th. We'll have many of the best surfers from the Bay Area and beyond surfing in the contest plus lots of cool raffle prizes, great recorded music and interesting people to hang out with. This is a free public event for spectators. Bring a beach chair and layered clothing and come enjoy a fun and relaxing time on the beach. In the meantime, please join us as we pray for good surf and nice weather without too much wind.
