Meramec Ambulance District joins our regional partners in mourning the loss of Tommy Shine, a dedicated firefighter with Wentzville Fire Protection District

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His passing is felt far beyond his department, impacting the entire first responder community.

Tommy’s strength, courage, and commitment to serving others will not be forgotten. He exemplified what it means to answer the call—selfless, resilient, and steadfast in the face of challenge.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with his loved ones and his brothers and sisters in the fire service during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Tommy. Thank you for your service.

Thank you Adopt A Family - Franklin County for your dedication to our community and all the employees of Meramec Ambulance District who helped make Christmas a little extra special for three families this year!

Each year, our A, B, and C Shift crews are each matched with a local family through the Franklin County Adopt-A-Family program. Each paired family is a family right here within our 244-square-mile district, and each crew has the ability to help make a family’s holiday a little brighter by purchasing Christmas gifts and helping relieve a little stress during an often busy season – because sometimes, even Santa needs a little help too. 🎅💙

This is truly one of our favorite things we do as a district — being able to give back, support our neighbors, and help make the holidays a little easier for the families we serve every day.

This week, all three crews dropped off their gifts to their respective families, and it was such a special moment for everyone involved. Pictured is our 8517 C Shift crew delivering their shifts gifts to their Adopt-A-Family this morning.

We’re proud to serve a community that feels like family. Thank you to our crews for putting so much heart into this tradition each year. 💙

Meramec Ambulance District is providing coverage assistance to St. Charles County Ambulance District as their personnel attended services for Lt. Sarah McCarthy.

We are especially thankful for the crew members who stepped up to staff an additional unit, allowing us to send support while still keeping all four of our trucks available to serve our district.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to Lt. McCarthy’s loved ones and to all who served alongside her. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand with our EMS partners and ensure continued service to the public during this time of mourning. 💙

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sarah’s family and St. Charles County Ambulance District.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant/Paramedic Sarah McCarthy of the Saint Charles County Ambulance District in Saint Peters, Missouri.
After responding to multiple emergency calls during a regular shift on November 21st, Lieutenant/Paramedic McCarthy began experiencing chest pain. She was immediately transported to an area hospital, where she was diagnosed and underwent successful surgical repair of a vascular rupture.
After the surgery, she was recovering so well that her doctors were discussing possible discharge within a couple of days.
Unfortunately, there was a setback, and a second surgery was required.
Following the second surgery, she suffered a catastrophic stroke and was transferred on December 4th to another facility for a higher level of care.
Tragically, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away this afternoon.
Through organ donation, she saved lives even in death.
Lieutenant McCarthy was 48 years old and served with the Saint Charles County Ambulance District for 23 years. She is survived by her husband, Chris, and daughters, Claire and Elise.
Please keep the McCarthy and Saint Charles County EMS families in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
