Backbone Trail Chicken Ridge Bridge Over Will Rogers State Park Update: TCA is deeply saddened to report that the Chicken Ridge Bridge known for its beautiful vistas, which is an integral part of the Backbone Trail that overlooks Will Rogers State Park has fallen into disrepair due to the January 2025 Palisades Fire.

TCA has started discussions with State Parks, The Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council, and Scout Troop 67 in the hopes that we can get together to spearhead the replacement of the popular bridge with the breathtaking viewpoint. The replacement bridge will in all likelihood have to be brought in via helicopter. While all of the groups involved come to a solution, State Parks Officials stress that hikers should refrain from traversing the closed portions of the Backbone Trail until it can be officially reopened.

After the Palisades Fire: California State Parks is planning the next steps in recovery for Topanga and Will Rogers State Parks by conducting a public engagement process and developing guiding principles and priorities for the future of the parks. The people who love, use, and manage the parks are asking: How will we move forward? How do we honor the historic legacy of Will Rogers and the precious parkland of Topanga State Park?
