As we join our Palisades neighbors in ongoing recovery from the devastating fires of a year ago, the Will Rogers Ranch Foundation, our volunteer docents and local state park staff from the Will Rogers State Historic Park are wishing you a brighter 2026 full of rebuilding and repurpose as we all find our way through current times.

Oh, Will, how we wish you were here to help us through it!

But we’re all still here.

Thankfully, his spirit lives on, and is so worth sharing with each new generation. And that’s what will be guiding us as we work to ensure that Will’s pioneering superstar and humanitarian legacy, and wife Betty’s farsighted vision, lives on at the ranch. That means no matter what shape “rebuilding” takes, Will’s onetime home and ranch escape will continue providing not only inspirational vistas and hiking/riding trails— but Betty’s original intent as a memorial monument to everything people loved about Will. How rare to have a p***c park memorial from the onetime homeplace of a comedian-columnist-pundit-actor and “quarter-blood Cherokee,” who traveled among the powerful and poor alike but saved his good-humored barbs for anyone who needed it.

In this new post-fire era, the ranch’s future interpretation scope and direction will be the focus of coming months and years to come.

Meanwhile, the park is open now for basic hiking in limited areas, the surviving structures are being resurrected while temporary trailers provide services, and 2026 marks the centennial of Route 66, the “:Will Rogers Highway,” with events planned all through the year — including Santa Monica, the ranch park, and Will’s hometown of Claremore, OK where his museums and birthplace are based.

Our love of Will and Betty and their worldwide audience — now back in the forefront, sparked even in tragedy — means we ain’t going anywhere. As he said in 1932: “The best way out of a difficulty, is through it”.

So— a fan of Will’s and the park? Your donation is always welcome at any level. Check the website, follow us to join in on our journey, and stay tuned!

Ninety years ago…. And 15.

We lost Will’s home ranch in the Palisades just seven months ago, but the tragedy of that day is only eclipsed by the day we lost Will himself.

When flash news bulletins were still new, the ones that screamed down from the furthest northern point on the globe—Barrow, Alaska— carried the news that’ll stilled America’s first media superstar and beloved political humorist—who happened to twirl a rope.

These photos are from 1935 … the recovery of Will and fellow Okie and famed flier Wiley Post’s bodies at their takeoff crash site (and from 2010 of the same scene on the 75th anniversary)… and just some of the horrified headlines of the day.

Every generation has said, “Oh Will, how we need you now!”—and for the Stewarts and Carlins and Colberts and such that Will pioneered the trail for, his own timeless remarks still move and illuminate us. Make us laugh, and make us think *because* of their very age and timelessness.

90 years later and it still hurts. But what a depth of legacy! Google Will, read his words, listen to his NBC radio show, enjoy his movies… mark the 100th anniversary next year of Route 66, the Will Rogers Highway… and visit any of the sites that honor him. Post-fire, that will include his West Coast ranch home again, in some form or fashion.

Rest easy, Will: your “descendants” are still keeping our “hired help” under scrutiny in Washington, along with all the “big boys” in their power dens, too… all for the sake of the “little guy.” We do remember. ❤️
