Please help people in need this time of year-donate to a food bank or food drive; donate to a toy drive or sponsor a family at holiday time.

It’s time to start tomatoes inside. I ordered seeds from Baker Creek and Renees Garden.

Since it's difficult to volunteer due to Covid-19 and the stay at home orders, please consider donating to organizations that you might usually work with.

Ones that we've worked with include: The People Concern (OPCC on the Westside); One Voice, Heal the Bay and The Westside Food Bank. Their work still goes on.

A way to help others this holiday season:

Adopt a Family. Some friends and I are adopting a Head Start family through One Voice, https://www.onevoice-la.org/ in Santa Monica. We are giving gift cards for food and other items instead of purchasing the items and wrapping them.

Please share if you have any ideas to help others this season.

Each year our Holiday Food Program provides Christmas food baskets, toys and books to 2,500 families (12,500 people) living in poverty in the Los Angeles area. All of the families are referred through the Head Start Program and meet federal and state mandated poverty levels.

I need someone to organize and run garden workshops for kids at the Palisades Branch library. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

Also, we have funds to purchase potting soil and seedlings and pots if someone wants to put them together and distribute to kids. This is an option if we can't do in person workshops.

Let us know if you can help distribute grow bags with seedlings and soil and recipes to local kids.

Our Story

We encourage volunteering by Palisadians and others by: - Networking with other organizations both in and out of the Palisades - Organizing programs and workshops

Environmental activities: sharing organic gardening practices and encouraging residents to grow their own food; encourage drought tolerant planting and planting for wildlife; encourage the use of reusable products and recycling; organizing gardening workshops.

Community activities: collecting school supplies and books; collecting toys; serving dinner at at shelters; collecting toiletries.

We network with local non-profits such as the American Legion, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Optimists and Rotary who help with our volunteer projects. Local businesses and organizations support school supplies drives, toy drives and food drives. Residents volunteer at Turning Point, in the Marquez School garden program and collect school supplies and toys for the respective drives. Our volunteers range in age from 6 to 85.
