PGUSD School Board will be considering school library budget cuts at the Feb. 5th board meeting. This will leave our students and teachers without any certificated Teacher Librarian position to oversee library collections and a safe library space for kids at school, teach digital literacy and online safety, support curriculum and 21st century learning.
PGUSD faces a budget deficit and is prioritizing competitive salaries, but cutting the library program is not the answer. We cannot attract quality educators to a district that devalues its students’ education.
This change would force the current librarian to resign, impacting 125+ students every day who rely on a credentialed educator for critical thinking skills, research support, and safe access to information.
In our role as supporters of the Pacific Grove Library we feel it is important that we advocate for school librarians as partners for our PG Library librarians.
Please email the PGUSD Board of Education today and ask them to protect our school libraries and academic standards.
