Ozawkie Connections

Ozawkie Connections Ozawkie Connections is a volunteer program that strives to generate community involvement. History of Ozawkie:
Ozawkie is a Sauk Fox Native American word.

Our mission statement is to: "Promote a vibrant & family friendly community" We believe our community has a rich and unique heritage. It means "Wa-Sae" - yellow, "Ah-Kee" - earth. Ozawkie was located where the Military Trail between Ft. Leavenworth & Ft. Riley crossed the Delaware River (now the Old Town campground & boat ramp). Ozawkie was founded in 1854. In 1855 Jefferson County made Ozawkie th

e county seat. In 1954 the Perry Lake project was approved. Citizens of Ozawkie formed Ozawkie Development Company making plans to move the town to the current location. In 1966 the water tower, school & 26 new homes were built. In 1967 the first election was held in new Ozawkie with W.A. Kramer being elected its first Mayor. Ozawkie became an Incorporated City in 1968. Ozawkie Community Center & Fire Station, (formerly Township Hall) were built. In 1989 all of "Block O" became Ozawkie City Park. The Shelter House was built in 1992.

Dear Supporters,

It is with a heavy heart that we share an important update regarding Ozawkie Connections. After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to dissolve the organization. The lack of members has made it increasingly challenging to sustain our efforts and fulfill our mission effectively.

We want to emphasize that this decision was not influenced by the overwhelming challenges faced by the mayor or past and present city council members. Our decision is solely based on the realities of maintaining the organization under current circumstances.

We would like to extend a special thank you to City Council members Chris Feuerborn, Laci Heller as well as city clerk Mazi Barnes, for their active efforts in helping make sure our events were able to happen. Additionally, we are deeply grateful to Kansas Comminity Empowerment for their support and the resources they have provided us through the years.

We are deeply grateful for the support, participation, and passion you’ve shown over the years. Ozawkie Connections cherish the memories we’ve built together.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.

With gratitude,

Dana Gettel
President
