Thrilled to award the first place winner in this year’s VFW Voice of Democracy audio-essay contest. Emma also won the district-level competion. Her essay will be judged at the VFW state competition after the first of the year. It was great to recognize her with a certificate and cash award and to hear her story. I love being part of a VFW Post that is so active with youth programs throughout Christian County. Great job Emma!

One of the best things about being part of VFW Sam Appleby Jr. Memorial Post 7628 is that we get opportunities to meet great young people in our community. VFW members James Griffin and Jim Price had the honor to meet two of the three finalists in this year's Voice of Democracy audio-essay contest. They both received certificates and cash awards for their efforts. Both are fantastic young men and are great representatives of this community.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Sam Appleby Jr. Memorial Post 7628, Ozark Missouri, promotes patriotism and is committed to recognizing excellence in our community. During a break in the Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game on Saturday, the Commander of the Post, Jim Price, presented plaques to the Fire Fighter and Law Enforcement Officer that exemplify excellence, service and commitment.
The Fire Fighter Award was presented to Matthew Garrison for alertness, personal courage, and ever vigilant guardianship of life and property.
The Law Enforcement Award was presented to Thomas Richardson for his unyielding adherence to the highest ideals of Law Enforcement in maintaining, preserving, and protecting the lawful right of all citizens.
Congratulations to these local heroes!

Veterans of Foreign Wars Sam Appleby Jr. Memorial Post 7628 was honored to provide the Color Guard for the 2nd Annual Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game on Saturday. It was great to see such a large turnout from the community for such a great event.
