IAFF Local 152 Urges “NO” Vote on Senate Bill 3 to Protect Fire Districts and Public Safety in Christian County

Christian County, MO — The Southern Missouri Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 152 is calling on residents of Christian County to vote NO on Senate Bill 3 in the upcoming April 7, 2026 election, citing serious concerns about the bill’s potential impact on fire districts and the safety of the community.
“Senate Bill 3 threatens the stability and effectiveness of our local fire districts at a time when dependable emergency services are more critical than ever,” said Devin Keeney, Local 152 President. “This measure could significantly limit the ability of fire departments to respond quickly, maintain staffing, and invest in lifesaving equipment.”
Keeney emphasized that fire districts rely on consistent and adequate funding to meet the growing demands of emergency response, including fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and disaster situations. Senate Bill 3, if enacted, will negatively impact fire protection district’s across the county, who are already operating on shoestring budgets.
“Response times, staffing levels, and firefighter safety are all at stake,” Keeney continued. “Any reduction in resources directly impacts how quickly we can get to someone in need—and that can be the difference between life and death.”
IAFF Local 152 also raised concerns that the bill could hinder long-term planning and infrastructure improvements. Fire departments must continually update equipment, maintain stations, and train personnel to meet evolving challenges. Budget constraints tied to Senate Bill 3 could delay or prevent these critical investments.
“Our firefighters are committed to serving this community with professionalism and dedication,” said Keeney. “But we need the tools and support to do our jobs effectively. Senate Bill 3 puts that at risk.”
Keeney urged voters to carefully consider the broader implications of the bill on public safety services across Christian County.
“This is not just about budgets—it’s about protecting our families, our homes, and our future,” Keeney said. “On April 7, stand with your local firefighters and vote NO on Senate Bill 3.”
