Clear Waterways Organization is part of a stewardship group at the hot springs in Montecito. Along with other organizations, such as the Montecito Trails Foundation, US Forest Service, several local individuals, and home owners. We work hard to keep the place clean, as a recent increase in visitors has brought some people who litter or graffiti. We made signs in Spanish and English, which help a lot yet there still is a need for constant clean up. We also report all camping and fires. There is a constant threat of closure to this place if the place isn't managed. We are looking out for everyone 's interest in the place. Please help by donating to Clear Waterways Organization, ( see the website on the pictures).

Clear Waterways Organization is part of a Hot Springs Canyon stewardship group in Montecito. We are doing the hard work to keep the trail, springs, and parking areas clean. With the constant threat of closure to the springs, we are helping to help keep it open for all. We are constantly picking up trash, graffiti removal, and we are reporting all fires and camping. Don't forget to support us as we have recently been responding to an increase of visitors, some of which cause a mess. Our signs in Spanish and English helped a lot. The website is on the sign if you feel like donating to the effort.

When you work to help beautify the Hot Springs Canyon in Montecito you get to know the community. One home owner tried to destroy the hot springs, and simultaneously used images of the hot springs in his $50,000 per month Air BNB advertising. I thought it was ironic that he hired a demolition company to destroy the hot springs, and then had the nerve to then use it in his marketing.

Not to worry, because there are some wonderful home owners that saved the Hot Springs Canyon from development many years ago, then turned it over to the SB Land Trust, and Forest Service. They also stopped over harvesting of water from the canyon, which helped the watershed which was dry have water once again.

We are meeting monthly at the hot springs home, to discuss , and share how we can be stewards of the canyon. Not all home owners are villainous. There are some who care about everyone's freedom and enjoyment.

This is the Hot Springs Trail parking area in Montecito. Clear Waterways Organization is working as a part of a stewardship group, including the several other organizations, and long time locals. We are working against the sudden inundation of visitors, and the trash some of them leave at the spring, trail , or parking areas. We are meeting to discuss how the trail can be kept open by our continuing to clean up, and how we can also maintain and beauty the canyon. In addition, we are on the look out, for people having bonfires, as one was reported by us last week. The Fire Department responded promptly. Some of the surrounding homeowners want the springs shut down, and none of us want that, including the homeowner who originally saved the Hot Springs Canyon from recent development. The home owners that saved the Hot Springs Canyon care about everyone's freedom and enjoyment. The continued enjoyment for all hinges on our ability to be good stewards, to comfort the home owners opposed to the hot springs use, and to help educate everyone to spread the word to treat the place with respect. Like a lot of nice places, they become threatened by mistreatment, and then closed. We are working to prevent this from happening.

Since COVID the Hot springs trail in Montecito has become a hot spot for visitors locally, and around the world. Through social media, new visitors of the springs have shared their experiences at the hot springs. With the sudden increase of visitors the hot springs has needed local stewards who help keep it clean. What came with an increase in visitors was trash dumped out of car doors, trash on the trail, and at the hot springs. People are trying to camp, and one made a bonfire the other night, which caused me to call the Montecito Fire Department. We are also going up the trail to help keep an eye on any potential issues. We have fomed a team. Keep reading.

A local stewardship group has been newly formed. A collaborative effort with partners such as: the local hot springs home owners, US Forest Service, Santa Barbara County Land Trust, Montecito Trails Foundation, a filmmaker, a hot springs historian, and several long time locals. We have been holding meetings hosted by home owners. We are all working to help keep this resource managed, and open for everyone's enjoyment. If it isn't managed, then what will result is a closure of the hot springs. Nobody wants the hot springs to close because of how some visitors do not treat the place with respect. Over the years other hot springs had become privatized or closed due to the same issues that are now happening here in Montecito. The home owners hosting the Hot Springs Stewards are doing a great service to help keep the hot springs open.

Pictured below signs I made are at the trailhead. With the signs, there was a reduction in the amount of trash that I see. They are posted in both English and Spanish. Thanks to the donor supported signs which helped Clear Waterways Organization make them.

Today there will be a meeting based upon the stewardship of the Hot Springs Trail in Montecito . The meeting will be attended by: residents adjacent to the trail, Clear Waterways Organization, Santa Barbara County Parks, Montecito Trails Foundation, US Forest Service, The Santa Barbara County Land Trust, and several longtime locals. In recent years post COVID, the Hot Springs Trail has become a major attraction that has spread worldwide by social media platforms, newspaper publications, and is mapped by google. Now that the secret is out, the trail needs to be looked after and protected by the damages that can occur from the inconsiderate and uncaring people who leave messes behind. The discussion will include: the future parking, and how the Government, community organizations, residents, and caring local stewards can help keep this place open. Oftentimes the place is overrun by visitors, and the community has to continually give their stewardship. The pictures above are now some people treat the parking areas, and trail. Clear Waterways Organization made signs with money from public donations. The signs helped a lot, but there are still some people who don't care. We continue to try because we love to protect and preserve natural places such as the Hot Springs Trail.

I've been at the beach and trails asking dog owners if they would like a bag that fits onto any dog leash. Often times dog waste bags are left on the beach or trail. The bags help the dog owner not have to carry their dogs waste until they can find a trash can. I was surprised that some people donated on the spot. Thanks for the support. May there be less dog bag waste in the environment as time goes on. Even if people are not able to donate it is great to spread awareness.

In order to prevent dog p**p bags from being littered, Clear Waterways is producing hand made bags, that fit on dogs leashes or your belt loop. The bags made out of marine canvas hold the dog p**p bags while you walk your dog. These are made with a purpose of helping to prevent the forgotten bags we see on the trail or the beach. Some dog owners stage their bags to pick them up later, but forget to pick them up. They can be purchased by donation to clearwaterways.org
The cost is $25 per bag. The proceeds go to the environmental clean up, which you can read about in the website.

My first order from Lahaina in Maui! Even in these tragic times of loss for the residents of Lahaina, such as Janet Spreiter, who has given support to Clear Waterways Organization's missions in the environment. I was moved emotionally knowing what she is going through, and she lovingly donated towards the cause. I'm so happy to have her as a believer and supporter. These bags are handmade, in an effort to prevent dog p**p bags from being littered, on beaches and trails. They hold your dog's waste, so you don't have to, while you are on a stroll with your dog. They are hand made out of fabric end cuts that have been saved from the landfill. These bags universally fit any dog leash or through a person's belt loop. The bungee keeps the bag where you desire on the leash. With all the dog bags left on beaches and trails, there had to be something to help improve things for the environment, and the dog owner. They are $23 per bag including shipping. The money helps support environment clean up, and non-native w**d removal, to help boost native plants growth. Even some planting of native plants. They can be ordered through the website at clearwaterways.org. All proceeds go to the nonprofit environmental programs.

In cleaning up so many dog p**p bags people leave behind, I finally lost my marbles, and went and did a thing. I invented some hand made dog p**p bag carriers. They fit on any leash, and they are a fundraiser for Clear Waterways Organization, clearwaterways.org. I think people mean well, when staging the dog p**p bags that they don't want to carry, but they forget them. This will hopefully help dog owners have a way to make it to a trash can. If you can use one, they are priced at $20 total with shipping included. The money goes towards Clear Waterways Organization's programs. For now, you may donate by PayPal on the website.

This section of land being choked out by invasive European w**ds was cleared, carefully saving native plants. Now all the light, space and water is going towards the native plant in it's environment. Thanks to volunteers for their help. It is very rewarding work, and also to know that you're helping the environment. So many wonderful benefits for the local ecosystem. If you are interested in joining some time, please send a message to clearwaterways.org contact us page.

Many native plants were saved today with the help from the California Conservation Corps, and volunteers from the public. At the Arroyo Hondo Nature Preserve, I helped to supervise volunteers and help them to learn what is an invasive w**d, and what plants are native. They carefully helped to increase the native plant's ability to compete with the invasive European w**ds. If you are interested in volunteering, please send an e-mail to [email protected], for a schedule, and to confirm.
