To inform and educate people about the racism and discrimination that Mixtec and Zapotec indigenous group undergoes, to make a stand and make a difference in the community. El grupo inicio en Noviembre del 2010 con el entrenamiento de liderazgo . Actualmente aproximadamente 15 jóvenes se reunen cada lunes de 6 a 8 de la noche en la oficina de MICOP en donde discutimos nuestras metas y visiones de

nuestro trabajo como grupo. Lo que este grupo pretende es tener un impacto positivo en la comunidad oaxaqueña residente en el Condado de Ventura y Santa Barbara. Los cuatro objetivos principales son:

1- REDUCIR LA DISCRIMINACION HACIA LA COMUNIDAD OAXAQUEÑA E INDIGENA EN GENEREAL EN LAS ESCUELAS, POR MEDIO DE LA CREACION DE UNA POLIZA QUE PROHIBA EL USO DE LA PALABRA "OAXAQUITA"

2-MOTIVAR Y CONCIENTIZAR A LA COMUNIDAD OAXAQUEÑA ACERCA DE LA IMPORTANCIA DE LA EDUCACION SUPERIOR, DANDO INFORMARMACION ACERCA DE LOS DIFERENTES GRUPOS E INSTITUCIONES QUE OFRECEN BECAS PARA PODER ASISTIR AL COLEGIO Y UNIVERSIDAD.

3-LEVANTAR UN LIDERAZGO JUVENIL PREOCUPADO POR EL BIENESTAR DE LA COMUNIDAD Y CAPAZ DE INFLUENCIAR E INFORMAR A LA COMUNIDAD EN TERMINOS DE EDUCACION Y EMPLEO.

4- FORTALECER NUESTRA IDENTIDAD INDIGENA Y CULTURAL A TRAVES DE DIALOGOS SOBRE NUESTRAS RAICES, CULTURA, TRADICIONES Y LENGUA INDIGENA.

We are excited to present to you all the Indigenous Inter-Tribal Wellness Gathering hosted by and with the support of , , , and the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. This community event is taking place on Saturday May 14th, at the Santa Maria High School practice field. There will be different Indigenous dances from our communities so don’t miss out!! ✊🏾MICOP/Tequio is asking for your support on AB2847. Our organization is fighting to advocate for unemployment benefits for excluded immigrant workers. Many of our community members are migrant Indigenous farmworkers who are unable to have access to health and safety needs, especially during times of crisis.

Scan the QR code to sign the petition in support of AB2847, under organization type in Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project to voice our Indigenous migrant workers within the community. 📢

Your support matters, and together urge California lawmakers to pass Ab 2847 that will establish and fund the Excluded Immigrant Workers Pilot Program.

Hello Everyone! We have a special announcement to make. This Wednesday we will not have a Tequio meeting but Tequio will be present at the Gran asamblea that our MICOP community organizers, Jorge Toledano and Marilu Gonzalez, will be hosting next week on Wednesday. This is an in-person community meeting in Ventura county, where we will discuss labor rights, wage theft, and Safety Net For All. We are proud to have the Santa Maria Tequio youth participate in GONA 2022 at the Chumash Reservation in Santa Ynez, CA. We are grateful for for providing a beautiful space for local indigenous youth and migrant indigenous youth to learn about the local Chumash community. ✊🏾

Even though we come from different places, we share a sense of connection to the land, and to everything around us.

We have similar ways of story telling, similar ways of healing and taking care of our people.
It’s important to acknowledge whose lands we reside on and to respect it , honor it, & protect it.
We as Indigenous migrants, stand along with our Chumash relatives in healing, persevering, and protecting what is sacred and important to our Indigenous communities.
It is beautiful to see Mixteco youth exchange knowledge with Chumash youth in this space.✊🏾❤️

The conversation will be centered around Safety Net 4All 📢movement. Come learn why it’s important to have youth voices involved in movements and how you can be that voice 🗣for the voiceless! Join the Museum of Ventura County for a FREE EVENT: a screening of Mariposas del Campo!

The screening will take place on April 9. There will be pre-event music and a bar, starting at 2 pm. The event formally starts at 3 pm.

Mariposas del Campo shares the stories of indigenous Mixtec, Zapotec, and Purépecha teenagers from Mexico striving to change their families’ destinies in the strawberry fields of Oxnard, California. The documentary captures their journeys as they navigate cultural identity, parental expectations, economic challenges, and the justice needs of their migrant farmworker community.

English to Spanish by Amada Irma Perez.
English to Mixteco by MICOP.

Sponsored by the Latino Advisory Committee, Oxnard Film Society, and MICOP (Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project)
