🟣 CITY OF SHAFTER PROCLAIMS OCTOBER 2026 AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
The City of Shafter has officially recognized October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, reaffirming the importance of raising awareness, supporting survivors, and helping prevent domestic violence in our community.
On October 20, 2026, Mayor Chad Givens, on behalf of the Shafter City Council, issued a proclamation encouraging residents to recognize the signs of abuse, support those affected, and promote safe and healthy relationships.
The proclamation emphasizes that domestic violence affects individuals and families from all backgrounds and can cause lasting physical, emotional, and psychological harm.
💜 RECOGNIZING LOCAL COMMUNITY EFFORTS
The City also recognized Líderes Campesinas del Comité de Kern Norte, an organization dedicated to educating and empowering farmworker women, raising awareness about domestic violence, and connecting families with important resources and support.
Their efforts help bring attention to an issue that often remains hidden because of fear, stigma, or a lack of available support.
A MESSAGE TO OUR SHAFTER COMMUNITY
Domestic violence is not just a private family matter. It is a community concern that deserves attention, compassion, and action.
No one should have to live in fear inside their own home. Survivors deserve to be heard, respected, and supported.
Awareness is important, but so is making sure individuals experiencing abuse know where to turn for help.
