The $20 million program was approved by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors last month. It is aimed at providing aid to businesses and nonprofits that did not receive money in the initial county grant program last year. Churches and other faith-based organizations can apply.

- The grants are designed for needs including payroll, rent payments, personal protective equipment and other costs related to pandemic protocols and reopenings.

- Uses that are not allowed include severance pay, taxes and costs not related to COVID-19 impacts.

- The grants do not have to be repaid but are taxable.

- Priority will be given to businesses owned by women, minorities and veterans. Preference will also go to organizations in communities with low-to-moderate income levels and to organizations that have employees.

Read more below.

The application window opens later this month for $5,000 grants aimed at helping Ventura County businesses survive the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative is a part of Bank of America’s four-year commitment to put a billion dollars toward closing racial and economic gaps, announced last June.

“Workforce development, job creation and access to health and housing services are some of the most pressing needs facing Black, Hispanic-Latino and Native American individuals,” said Bank of America’s racial equality and economic opportunity executive Ebony Thomas in a statement. “By providing this support alongside our national and local partners, we are further addressing many of the challenges facing under-resourced and underserved communities across the U.S.”

Bank of America will donate over $22 million in grants to support education, jobs, health and housing in communities of color, according to an announcement on Monday.

The Area Agency on Aging provides transportation services for older adults that need transportation to a vaccine appointment or for COVID-19 testing. This includes people that need lift assist as well as gurney transportation. The driver will take the individual, wait for them, help them at the site and take them home. The COVID-19 Vaccine dashboard was launched last Friday to keep the community informed on the progress of administering COVID-19 vaccines it can be viewed at www.venturacountyrecovers.org.

As of 2/1/21, 71, 374 doses have been administered. There are 12,954 scheduled appointments this week. That includes 10,794 fist doses and 2,169 second doses. The dashboard is updated Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The data shows that in very simple terms "when we get it, we give it". We want you to receive the vaccine as soon as possible. We are limited on supply.

2nd Dose

2nd dose notifications will begin to go out this week. Community members who have met their wait period requirement will receive a reminder to schedule their second appointment. The notification will be sent to the contact information provided for the first appointment. Appointments will be opened as close to the date you are eligible to receive the second dose but may vary up to two weeks based on availability of vaccine.

Supply

The County of Ventura receives 9-10k vaccines, on average, weekly. There are roughly 110,000 people in the 65-74 age range that need the vaccine. The next phase has not yet opened because of the limited supply. There are still people 75 and older in need of vaccines. There was a Federal goal of 100 million doses by the end of December but only 20 million were allocated to the States. This has impacted the supply to the counties. We cannot promise vaccines we do not have. We are only able to open appointments for the vaccines we have to give.
