Today, the women of the Lighthouse enjoyed a trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo, where they saw giraffes, gorillas, and even had the chance to brush goats.

Experiences like these are an important part of the healing and recovery journey, creating opportunities for joy and restoration.

After graduating from the Lighthouse, Karen is starting a new chapter in Victor Valley. She’s now working as a companion to a woman whose husband recently passed away, with housing and transportation included with the job.

Karen is also working toward finishing her associate’s degree and saving money. She hopes to reconcile with her family and reconnect with her children.

For seven years, Sheila and her six-year-old daughter lived in a minivan while traveling across the United States. Each summer, they would make their way to Ventura County to enjoy the warmer weather before continuing their journey. This year, Sheila decided to stay.

That choice led her to the Lighthouse for Women and Children. After spending time in the emergency shelter, Sheila took the next step in her journey and entered our Life Recovery Program. Here, she found a safe place and caring staff who welcomed her without judgment.

The road behind Sheila tells her story. The steps ahead will shape her future. Today, she’s choosing to stay, do things differently, and create a better life for herself and her daughter.

With a suitcase in hand and a new future ahead, Karen boarded a train from Oxnard to begin the next chapter of her life.

After graduating from the Life Recovery Program at the Lighthouse for Women and Children, Karen returned to her community in Victorville with a new job, housing, and the support of a local church. With the help of her case manager, Lindsey, Karen overcame obstacles and took steps forward toward a new beginning.

We are so proud of Karen and the joy, humor, and determination she brought to the Lighthouse.

There was more than just tacos on the menu. There was kindness, generosity, and a reminder to the women at the Lighthouse for Women and Children that they are deeply cared for.

Thank you to J&A Welding for treating everyone to dinner with Tacos el Forastero and for faithfully supporting our ministry. From holiday meals and gifts to new picnic tables, playground cleanup, and partnering with Stanley Steemer to clean our carpets, they continue to make a lasting impact.

The women at the Lighthouse heal in many different ways. For some, healing happens in the garden.

As they care for something new, they find peace, purpose, and hope after seasons of chaos and uncertainty.

From an empty room to a place where kids can laugh, play, and just be kids. Megan and Dana, pictured here, joined Danika and Sarah to transform a space at the Lighthouse for Women and Children into a beautiful new kids' room.

They generously donated everything you see and have faithfully supported the Lighthouse for the past three years through holiday events, crafts, and countless acts of kindness. We're so grateful for their continued investment in the children and families we serve.

A shelter should feel more like a home than a place to stay. For children like Isaiah and Delilah, that means having a safe place to enjoy a snack, watch a show, and be kids.

Moments like these bring comfort and stability as families take their next steps forward.

Strength is being rebuilt here, one day at a time. Our women’s shelter now has a new fitness room with a treadmill, exercise bike, weight rack, and yoga mats.

What was once a storage room is now a space for healing and growth, supporting physical, mental, and emotional health. This project was made possible through grant funding and generous equipment donations from District Attorney Erik Nasarenko and his team.
